Pin-Ups

I'm not sure I've ever mentioned this before, but I and Sean are big fan's of pin-up photography. You've seen the 40's animated versions right?

Well, now there are photographers specializing in that type of photography.

Photo courtsey of Viva Van Story's website.

I really want to get some of these photos taken while Sean is deployed. I think it'd be a great gift for him, as they are sexy yet still classy enough that you wouldn't be embarrassed if other people saw them.

The tough part? Finding someone to do it that doesn't live on either coast. I was looking to possibly do this when I went home around Christmas, but so far I haven't found anyone close enough to my home to do it. I did look at a studio in Dallas, but I don't really like their style. I'm mainly looking in Kansas City or Dallas, so if you have heard of anyone who does good pin-up photos around there, than PLEASE let me know. The second tough factor? Those pictures are expensive! The cheapest package I've found is $750 and that's not even including the pictures.

I think it'd be worth it though. I mean, 30 years from now I'd look at the pictures and think..."geeze! I wish I still looked like that." Ha ha ha!

So...if you girls know of any places, please let me know!

I really am no help. I'm in Germany and lived in NY while in the states. lol. But I think this is an AWESOME idea! I too love pinups and think that your husband would love the surprise of it especially since it's your idea though of just for him. I hope you find someplace that works and have a ton of fun getting it done!

I think it's a great idea! I don't know about photographers, but I will say that deployment bonus money will make it more affordable : )

you and I are on the same track. I've been on the prowl for a good pin-up photographer, and keep hoping one will pop up in my town, but nope. I'd have to fly to like Seattle or Boston. I'm still considering it, though, because some of those places do the whole shebang: they have the outfits, do your hair and makeup, and take the pics! Let me know if you find a good place; if Southwest flies there I'd absolutely consider it!

Cool pics!

I would ask around..maybe there's a freelance photographer (maybe even another mil spouse?) that would take the pictures at a cheaper cost?

Don't know if Foot Hood is too far off, but. . . The girl that runs Pope Hill Photography is a friend of mine, and she's pretty darn good.

What an awesome idea. I'm no help as I'm in St. Louis, but it seems crazy to me that they are that expensive. Good luck on your hunt, I think it'd be an amazing keep sake.

Talk to Caroline at USO girls. She is a photographer and was considering opening up a studio that specialized in that. She might have some good resources for you. And as of now, she's still in Dallas!

Oh too bad you can't get to San Diego. There are two places there, one called Bad Kitty Photography and I forget the other one's name, but they give MASSIVE discounts if you get it done while your husband is deployed! And the prices aren't bad to begin with. I was going to get them done for my Ex before he deployed. For a whole photo album, a calendar, and some framed shots to go around our house, it was only going to coast me around $500. That price included my hair and make professionally done, plus all the outfits and props.

Sometimes I wish I still had a SO because I really want to get the pics done. But I would have no one to give them to! Lol

Oh my goodness, I think that is a great idea! And worth the money too, because like you say, you will have them to enjoy always afterward.

Sean is one lucky dude! ;)

get out of my head! I was just telling a friend that I was going to do that for Doc the next time he deploys :) Good luck finding someone, if I come across anyone in your area while I am researching I will let you know.

I think you could get a talented photographer who is creative to do the shots with you even if that is not there specialty. The ones who do specialize in it have the market cornered, so they can charge so much!

oooooo good idea! I LOVE pin up art. I did a big project on Vargas my sophomore year of art school. You would make a lovely pin up girl!

I am at work but when i get home (if i can remember) I will look on some of the modeling networking sites i belong(ed) to. See if i can find a photographer in that area.

Hey I am pope hill photography. I would love to do a shoot with you if you can get to Fort Hood. I have been wanting to do a full on pin up shoot but I don't have the costumes because I can't afford to buy a bunch of them right now and I haven't found anyone that is willing to bring their own. If you want to talk about setting something up please let me know.

I have several books of famous pin ups and all kinds of ideas of how to set them up. I will work with you to make sure you get exactly the style you want.
