Be Careful What You Wish For

You all know the phrase, "Be careful what you wish for". I'm sure we've all heard it a million times, yet it always bites me in the butt.

Since we've been living in Italy I've wished for it to storm. Silly request I know, but being from Oklahoma I'm used to spring time storms that'll knock your socks off. The less severe ones I find comforting in some odd way.

Anyway, last night I got my wish and it couldn't have come at a worse time. I closed the USO last night, which means I don't get off until ten. It'd been raining all day, but it chose to pour last night on my way to my car. Then two volunteers (one with bike in tow) asked if I could give them a ride home. Not a problem, except my gas gauge is flashing low fuel and I easily get lost in Vicenza.

Ten euro of gas and an hour later I finally found my way home. Dropping the first one off was easy, it was finding the way to the second volunteer's home that was a mess. I bet we got lost in downtown Vicenza for nearly 20 minutes and while it's raining and storming to boot. Not fun, I assure you.

FINALLY I found his house and then two seconds later I was on the main road that takes me home. Talk about a trial! I am now convinced more than ever I need a GPS in my car and am willing even to take it out of my own paycheck to get it!

Thank goodness today is sunny, although a bit cooler than what we were getting used to. Boomer and I are headed to post to do a few errands and to get him a little bit of exericse. I'm waiting to do my free weights this evening when most of the soldiers will be drunk or at the strip club. I don't like having to wait on people to finish to do my weight routine as that kind of defeats the purpose of it.

Today I'm bringing back Fun Friday Questions! Todays edition is literary, so get ready to repost your answers on the comments or feel free to post on your own site.

1. What is one book you could read a million times and never get tired of it?
2. If you wrote a book about your life, what would the title of it be? Explain.
3. What literary character do you think most resembles you?
4. What is one book that you've always wanted to read, but have never got around to?

My answers:
1. Summer Sisters by Judy Blume. If you haven't read it, you must! I've re-read it every summer since I was 17.
2. Me and You and a Dog named Boomer. I'd explain, but I think it's pretty obvious why I would call it that. It's just Sean, I and a dog named Boomer. Ha!
3. Hmm...I'd say Scarlett O'Hara at times....because I'm pretty willfull and stubborn, but I like to think I'm not as spoiled and selfish as she is.
4. For some reason Anna Karanina comes to mind. I tried to start it back in middle school, but lost interest pretty quickly.

Yes, you definitely need a GPS! I can't live without mine. I get lost all of the time!

Hmmmmm I'll have to think of the answers to these questions and get back to ya.

Ohh GPS is love! And, honestly, if you shop around and wait for a coupon or sale, they really aren't that expensive anymore. I got mine for $120.

We would be totally lost without our GPS here in Germany. We got ours on Ebay for $160 and it has US and Europe maps so we can use it when we go back to the states. It has been pouring rain here as well. :(

I love my GPS, I honestly don't know how I survived without it. It's so nice to have the security knowing that no matter how many wrong turns you make, your GPS will always know where you are!

I guess I'll be the first one to tackle the question...

1) A Tree Grows In Brooklyn- I read it in middle school for a class thought it was okay. But then I revisted it over Christmas this year and loved it. I can't wait to read it again.

2)NO idea on this one.

3)This is a hard one...may be Amy from Little Women. I was a brat when I was little. I was also dropped by my sister when I was a baby, just as Amy was.

4) Honestly, I would love to read the Bible in its entirety. I bought one of those "One Year Bibles" and started to this year but fell behind sometime in mid January...maybe next year!

The questions are great so I'm joining in on my blog :-)

I just got a GPS and it has been a life safer with moving away from home. I couldn't live with out it! Luckily I got it for my birthday so I didn't have to buy it though.

I ALWAYS get lost! GPS was the greatest investment ever.

A GPS is a must over here! I don't even think about directions anymore. Plus, it's easy to just plug in places like Croatia and follow along. We even plug in random places at home to see how far places are from us.

I also profess the importance of a GPS while driving on the wonderful narrow...allies... they call roads here in Europe. =D

Anna Karenina is a tough read, especially if you have a hard time with Russian nicknames/patronymics. I can help you with that :)

And seriously, GPSs are AMAZING!

I love stormy weather as well... but like you, the caveat is that I am not actually out in it! Ha! :D And I loved Summer Sisters!

I have so many favorite books, but one of the ones I read over and over is Count of Monte Cristo.

The title of my book would be Every Day Contains a Blessing because of the joy I find in all of the little things every day.

Funnily enough, I think my character would be Melanie (GwtW), although my daughter tells me I am Mary Poppins. Ha!

And I always wanted to read Moby Dick but never have.

Oh, and GPS is totally worth the price! Get it early so you can use it your entire tour! :D

I'd say a GPS is totally necessary. I have one on my phone thanks to Verizon, and I still manage to get lost occasionally.

PS I think that REI has one on sale during the sale starting May 1st....

I'll have to think about answers to your questions. They definitely made me think.

Fun Friday Questions! Great idea...somehow I missed the previous ones. :)

1. The Harry Potter Series - Yes, I know that makes me a complete dork and is totally immature, but I've read them all several times and will read them again, probably in the next few weeks.

2. That's Not What I Meant - I always seem to be saying the wrong thing, doing the wrong thing, or having things end up the wrong way. Of course, it works out in the end and usually is better than I expected, but it's not what I imagined. :)

3. We're back to the Harry Potter books...my dad always laughs when he sees Hermione, not only b/c I have the bushy hair, but b/c I was exactly like that when I was little...plus I hate being wrong. (wish I was that smart, though!)

4. The Bible...I couldn't get past the "so and so beget so and so, etc, etc.". I guess I could have skipped it but that would have felt like cheating.

And on the GPS topic, my phone has Navigation and I cannot live without it now. LOVE IT.

Wow, that sounds like a rough night. I don't have a GPS in my car, but I have one on my phone and it's a life-saver. Seriously!

Ugh that sounds like a mess! I loved the GPS system that the BF had. Sadly we lost it on the drive up to ND when my car got stuck in the snow. =[ I think I'll try and get him one for his birthday though, it really came in handy.

Ugh, lost in a storm in a foreign city; the stuff of my own personal nightmares! I still get lost in my own town. Today is was snowing and thundering at the same time. Fortunately I don't have to drive in it.

A GPS sounds like it would be a huge help! Our GPS has serious issues with all the new road work etc. around here... but still, I wouldn't try and drive anywhere without it!

And, actually, you can find some that are pretty reasonably priced now. They aren't so new and exciting anymore which means the price has reduced :)

Our GPS has been wonderful! It even tells us the exact time we will be arriving at our location! Totally worth the money.
