Pounds and Puppies

Well, here I am at work...alone downstairs again. Never fear though, I still have some mail to do and I also brought along my new Budget Travel to keep me busy.

There is an office to the left of us that part of it is overhead our filing room, well they are doing some work up there and whoever is doing it sounds like they could be trying out for Riverdance. They are loud! It goes a little something like this, " tap, tap, hammer, hammer, hammer, BANG, tap, tap tap."

So I finished my first Jen Lancaster book this weekend. For those of you already on the Jen Lancaster wagon that read her several years ago, bear with me. I just got introduced to her books. It's been awhile since I have laughed so hard reading a book. Several times I had to put down the book and actually wipe away tears because I was laughing so hard. Sean kept asking me what was so funny, but when I would read the passage he didn't think it was as funny as I did. Guess you have to actually read the book to get the gist of it. I cannot wait to get her next two books. I'm officially hooked!

A friend of mine is in the process of moving to her first military post this week and we've been talking the last few months about what she should expect, etc. She asked me last week if I ever forgot the fact that I lived on a military post. I don't know about you fellow military wives, but I never forget that fact.

Perhaps it's the fact I see people in ACU's everyday, the constant helicopters flying over or the sounds of mortars going off and gunshots from the ranges, but I never forget where I'm at. I like the fact I live on military post, but it's so different from what I was used to. I guess in time you just adjust to it and it becomes your life. Well, at least that's what I told my friend.

You know it's funny, because I told Sara last week when she was visiting that I feel closer to her and other bloggers on here than I do some of the women that I've met here at Ft. Polk. I don't know if it's because the people that blog on here seem to be more similiar to myself or exactly what it is. Makes me grateful for blogging!

I was walking Boomer yesterday and we passed a lady with a large dog, I think he was a Boxer. She told me I was lucky for having a smaller dog. I just smiled and said yes, but what I should have said was....

"Yes, I consider myself lucky that my small dog likes to run underneath my bed and chew up the underside of the mattress"

"Oh and let's not mention what he's destroyed since we got him, too many of my chapsticks to count (in fact, just one this morning) fall decorations, a library book, a photo album, countless things out of the trash and oh yeah that roll of toilet paper last night"

Don't get me wrong, I love Boomer, but he is a handful! I can only imagine if he were larger what he would get into!

So I have a question, how is it possible that after eating sort of crappy last week that I didn't gain any weight until this morning when I stepped on the scale and was 2 lbs heavier than yesterday. I even went and ran 3 miles yesterday! How is this possible? I hate my scale. My goal is to lose those pesky ten more pounds before I leave Fort Polk. I'm going to try my hardest to accomplish that. Even if it means no more Reeses and cutting down on my potato intake. ::sigh::

Women and their scales! Throw it away!!!! I've never owned a scale and the only times I get worried about possible weight gain is when my clothes start feeling snug (which is usually due to the dreaded, "eating more and exercising less" combo).

Seriously. keep up with the regular exercise and good eating habits and your mood will be so high that you won't care about what a stupid scale says!

Which Jen Lancaster book did you read? I'm reading Bright Lights Big Ass right now. It's funny. Glad you enjoyed! Good luck with the weight loss -- I'm in the same boat, trying to lose 10 lbs I put on after I had surgery and couldn't work our for almost 3 months!

Yeah, that was Michael's company. He was moved to a different company a few months before the deployment. They were talking about switching him back to that company about a month ago and sticking him at one of those outposts. I can't tell you how glad I am that they decided not to do that.

My dog is a handful too. But don't worry, Boomer should mellow out a little when he gets older. Mine stays out of the crate when I do errands now and I've quit checking out the house when I get home (he still gets crated when I go to work and gym afterwards, though).

Don't worry about the weight gain. Two pounds overnight usually means water weight. I'm obsessive about weighing myself, doing it about 4 times a day. But I do it to moniter my hydration. My weight fluctuates about 3 pounds throughout the day! My guess is you ate a salty dinner the night before that made you retain water. Just drink lots of water today to flush out that sodium!

I totally relate to the "Boomer eating your stuff" part of this post. I don't think it matters if it's a little dog or big dog either... last summer my Doberman ate some random cardboard wrapped in string which resulted in an emergency trip to the vet for 2 hours of surgery. I was glad she was okay but that was an expensive vet bill for sure!

And good luck with the diet plan! I'm with you girl! Cutting down on potatoes sounds like a good idea :-) Unfortunately, I love all carbs- potatoes, sugar, bread, you name it.

I have a boxer; well actually 3 of them, and they can tear up a small piece of paper into millions of little tiny pieces. Don't know how they do it?? But they do. One time I made the mistake of getting them a little stuff squeaky toy--by the next morning it looked like it snowed in my backyard. I never knew one of those little stuffed toys could hold so much fluff!!! LOLOL

I gained two pounds this morning too. Ugh! But you know it could be muscle too! I try not to focus too much on the scale and more on how clothes fit and my work pants are so much looser.

try having a mid sized dog that has destroyed 2 1/2 couches, 2 oversized chairs, a door frame, ripped up linoleum, chewed window ledges, ripped up carpet and can now jump over bars to keep her out of the window and over the 4' fence that is supposed to keep her away from the door frame she's already destroyed.

I'd rather have her chewing up the bottom of my mattress than destroying my house that we're going to have to pay for when we move out *sigh*

kudos to you on the 3 miles :)

it's probably just water weight! but still, if I eat {let's just say} chocolate haagen dazs ice cream {pint} more than once in a week, TWO WEEKS LATER is when it seems to show up ...and then I'm always surprised because by that time, I am actually eating healthy. ...it's so weird. Also, I always bulk up right after exercising. sucks.

I can't believe you live on a military post. that must be wild!!!

Howie gets in trouble so much that he knows he did bad as soon as I do a loud gasp! He usually drops the forbidden object and lays flat on the ground and looks ashamed. But I love him so much that he is usually forgiven in 30 seconds, anyway!!

Yup..throw the scale away! Muscle weighs more than fat..so you really can't judge by the number on the scale. Just look in the mirror! What book did you read? Sounds like I need to buy some Jen Lancaster!!

"She told me I was lucky for having a smaller dog."

Uh... last time I checked people usually picked their own pets, and decide what size dog they want? I picked a large dog (Ruby's about 60 pounds) on purpose, so I don't complain about it! That just struck me as weird!

There are different ideas out there about weighing yourself. Some studies have shown that daily weigh-ins help you recognize more quickly when you've gone off track -- but I think that applies more to those that are maintaining, not trying to lose.

The main thing that has been shown to help weight loss is to track what you eat, and to set specific goals. I loved using SparkPeople when I was trying to lose weight; here's a link to some of their motivation articles, which I always found really helpful. You can do it!!
