More Insights and My Scale Phobia

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who commented yesterday. You guys are so sweet! Reading your comments seriously made my day.

Ready for another edition of things I've noticed in Italy? Let's begin.

1. Almost everyone (women that is) wear their boots tucked into their pants. Ok, as a shorter girl with legs resembling more of a tree branch than a twig, I'm not so sure my legs will cooperate with this trend. Also, tights with boots and short skirts are big here too. Again...not so sure I can work the tight-wearing trend. I'll give it a try though. Especially because I LOVE the boots they wear here. Buckles and high heels galore!

2. A good way to tell you are an American? Wearing blue jeans. I have yet to see jeans on an Italian woman or man. I'm sorry, but I just refuse to give up my jeans.

3. So, I noticed on post that there was a building called the Italian Mensa. I thought it a bit odd that there would be a Mensa society on post, but dismissed it. Only later did I find out that mensa means cafeteria. Ha!

4. AFN sucks. Seriously. I have been stuck watching wrestling for what feels like the past three nights. Me? I'm up for some Six Feet Under. Sean? Loves the fact that pay per view wrestling is shown for free. This man hasn't watched wrestling in ten years, yet can't get enough of it now. Yes, he knows it's fake.

5. The best AFN "commercial" goes a little like this. "You can laugh and joke around", said three times showing three different groups of people living it up. "But Not at the gate!!!" To the effect you can't joke around about bombs at the gate. Seriously, is anyone that stupid to joke around about having a bomb on a military installation? I hope not.

I went by the ITR office yesterday to sign up for the Florence trip. Bad news though. It seems that we won't be able to go. Evidently 25 is the minimum number to go and I was like the 10th person to sign up. I'm sad! I want to see Florence dang it!

I've been decent at working out this week. I went to the gym yesterday and did Turbo Jam this morning in the room. I do enjoy Turbo Jam, but the host, Chalene Johnson annoys the crap out of me. Nobody should be that perky about kicking and punching. Nobody!

Although I've been trying to cut back on my food intake and upping my working out, I still refuse to step on the scale. I have my digital scale with me, but I'm frightened to get on it. I'm not sure I've gained weight, as my pants still fit great and aren't tight, but I'm just too scared to face the truth of what the scale says.

I know, I know...I'm a sissy.

Well, I'm off. Hope everyone has a lovely Wednesday!

I am 100 percent with you, we were the same way, but once you get everything settled you'll feel SOOO much better!

This post is so funny! In Germany everyone wears their jeans tucked into boots as well...

The jeans in boots thing was one of the first thing i noticed too..but coming from the LA area its not that odd...also Italians love colored jeans. Red Green Blue its a rainbow of color!

I wear crazy things here that I would never have worn before. I totally wear my skinny jeans tucked into my crazy Paris boots. You'll get used to it faster than you think!

Don't wear tennis shoes with your jeans, that's a HUGE American flag. You'll have to get a crazy pair of Euro "tennis shoes" for when you travel.

PS- Now I am heading down to Aviano from the 11th to the 16th. Do you have plans?

Oh no. I totally think you could pull off wearing the boots outside the pants!! I do it all the time. My friend however is 5'2" and she can pull it off as well!! Soooo go for it!

I wear my pants tucked into my boots, too. In fact that's what I'm wearing right now *grin* But I agree, European fashion will grow on you fast than you think.

Gotta blend in. OPSEC, baby!

I love the observations on Italy! It's a great sneak peek into European culture! I'm sure you haven't gained weight if you're working out so much. It's awesome that you are staying motivated to keep up the exercise routine!

I wear jeans every day of my life. I don't think I could go without wearing jeans! :-D

Let me know how being short and wearing tucked in jeans go--I'm interested!

As far as scales--we don't own one! I refuse to get on the scale...EVER. I go by how I look and feel. :)

I don't own a scale. They're evil, seriously. I do weigh myself at the gym, but I haven't been in so long that the thought is kind of frightening. I tend to be pleasantly surprised once I do step on the scale tho. I'll think I've gained so much weight and in reality it's only a pound or two in either direction.

Girls and their scales...geez! We should throw them all out.

Unfortunately, people ARE that stupid. I always think when I hear some stupid announcement or warning that the reason they made those is because somebody did it.

I love hearing about all of the interesting things in Italy! I bet the fashion over there is pretty cool, though. I couldn't give up jeans either - I just wish I could wear them to work everyday (or almost everyday).

haha, i laughed out loud when you mentioned the wrestling coming on three nights a week! my husband watches it too, and it's just ridiculous. he and his friend get super excited about pay-per-views.

my favorite afn commercial is the one with the dad and the little girl where he talks about pcs'ing again, and she's a drama queen. seriously, makes me giggle every time.

The joys of afn. You can watch most of your favorite shows online with a little persistence.

My favorite commercial by far is the one where everybody is wearing all red. It's one of the "Blend in and you are less likely to be a victim of terrorism" Ones. So apparently wearing all red makes you invisible and look like the locals. Good idea...not!

Hey girl! My suggestion to Florence would be to get on a train and go, but I also am not in your place. When you get to larger cities, the men wear jeans. The women never do. The upside is that they wear tons of linen and you can buy sweet dresses and pants for the summer time. Summer there is like summer in texas or LA. Less humidity though.

I love Turbo Jam! I caved and bought the DVDs when I moved from Seattle. My TKB instructor there was certified with their program so she was always updating her workouts and music ("Rounds"). The instructor was as perky as Chalene, but it made the atmosphere more laid back for me (it was my first group class and I was freaked out!)

I love the jeans in boots trend. It's a thing here too, though! In fact, I've got some jeans tucked into some riding boots as I type :) I can't wear tennis shoes with skinny jeans and that is mostly what I have now. I use to think I couldn't wear tight jeans, leggings, and tights because I have big, muscular legs, but I got over that quick. Oh and I have short legs too. I think I love them now! Try it!

I'm with you about the scale and perky people working out....Barb

I'm sure you can pull off the pants tucked into the boots trend! After a few times, it won't even phase you! And I highly doubt your legs look like "tree trunks!"

Mrs. Not-so-Domesticated said...

I don't think I could give up jeans, and I hear what your saying about being short...I just don't have enough leg to pull off the pants tucked in the boot look. I'd love to do it, and look cute but its just not possible.

I just found your blog thru Casey's blog and I am settling in to read it! I am getting married in March here in Atlanta and my future husband and I are moving to Germany 3 weeks later! I am nervous out of my mind. I can't imagine how emotional it is going to be just getting on the plane! We are not a military family (he'll be civilian DoD) and I have lived in Atlanta my whole life. This move will be huge! Can't wait to read about your adventures.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it's the best Mexican food ever ;)
Your recipe sounds awesome. I'll have to try that next time!

My husband always tells me about the terrible commercials on AFN. He says they always play the "Don't Shake the Baby" one, as well as the "Don't be THAT guy." commercials. He was never so happy to get back to normal Budweiser commercials!

OH...I love the jeans in the boots look! I am only 5'2" (on a good day) and I wear it all the time! But all of my boots, except one pair, have high heels. get a heel, even a short heel, and it will look great!
