A bit of a random question, but I thought of this driving to post this morning.
Do you take off your wedding ring/jewelry you always wear for certain activities? Or do you never remove it?
I ask this, because I went swimming with a bunch of ladies and all of them wore their wedding rings in the water to swim. I don't. In fact, I take my wedding ring off when I do dishes, shower and pretty much whenever I get home because I don't want to hit it on something.

I don't wear mine in the shower, I take them off to put lotion on because I feel like it keeps the diamonds clean for longer, if I'm touching raw meat I will take them off (I don't really know why... just don't like to wear them when I do that). But for the most part, I wear them at all other times.
The only jewelry I wear is a sterling silver ring from my grandma. I generally take it off when I work out (climbing, running, biking) but leave it on most of the time. I take it off to work out since I don't like the feeling of it getting tight.
When I have nicer rings, I will take them off for a lot more, I'm sure.
Mine come off only if I am working with raw meat or dough in the kitchen. Picking that crap out of my diamonds is disgusting. Other than that, they stay on always--I've run both half-marathons with them, they have been in the ocean, hot tubs, a lap swim pool, etc. I feel naked without them.
I take mine off for a lot of things too, especially when i go to bed, showering, and when I cook.
I take mine off often. It's slightly too big now and comes off really easily if my hands get wet. Plus, when I exercise my fingers swell (weird) so I take it off then, too, or else I get an indentation. I can't sleep with it either - I've scratched my face several times on the setting. So, yeah, I'm very careful where I wear my ring.
I generally only take mine off when I'm working with food with my hands ( baking bread esp), occasionally when I'm riding my horse, but that's about it. I couldn't wear them for the last part of my pregnancy and hated it. I love having the weight of them with me all the time.
I almost always leave mine on, except when I put on lotion. However, lately I have been taking it off a lot more often because I need to have it resized. Since I've lost all this weight it literally flies off when I flick my wrist, so playing in the sand or taking a shower scare me and I take it off first.
I take mine off to do dishes, take a shower, play sports, or garden... otherwise, it's on day & night. I feel naked without it.
I don't wear mine in the shower or when I lotion my face or do my hair. I just don't like gunk to get in my ring. Other than that, it never comes off.
When we first got engaged, I took off my ring for almost every activity...showering, swimming, cooking, etc. Then I realized that (with my luck) I would probably lose them that way. Since then, my rings don't come off unless I'm working with dough or raw meat.
I only take mine off whenever I am making dough or cutting/handling raw meat. Once in a while i I will take them off to put on lotion, but those are really the only times.
I honestly only wear mine when I'm leaving the house. It comes right off as soon as I get home as well. I don't wear it swimming, to the gym, or anything like that either. I've never really worn jewelry...it all starts to bother me after a while.
I only take it off if I am going to handle something nasty that will stick to it (like pizza dough last night)...or go water skiing or tubing. But I will leave it on for pretty much everything else. You'd think I would be a little more careful since my husband lost his in the first 3 weeks we were married in a tragic pressure washing accident...but no.
Mine comes off the moment I walk in the door! I feel that I wash my hands (at home) so much that I am constantly getting water between them which bothers me... so I give up and just take them off.
I also don't wear them in the pool because I probably just put sunscreen on (ick inside rings).
My wedding band and engagement ring never come off unless I am playing with them out of boredom, or I convince one of the jewelry shops at the mall to clean them. If I had a different setting with lots of little diamonds I would probably take it off for various things, but I have a lonely diamond and it takes quite a beating, but it's a diamond so they're supposed to be hearty right? :/
I think I just have a fear of losing mine that I never take them off (mostly because I have lost about 5 rings doing that). I did have to take my engagement ring off horse-back riding once because it was digging into my hand, almost forgot to get it back from the person, but luckily it was my stepfather and we were all going home anyway.
Mine are always on except when I work out because my fingers swell.
I only wear a diamond wedding band and it never comes off.
I am not allowed to wear mine to work, so it's off for that, but as soon as I come home, back on it goes. I take pleasure in wearing my ring and I don't like taking it off and increasing my chances of losing it.
I don't wear my ring at work (I'm a massage therapist). I keep it at home on a little giraffe ring holder. Normally I forgot about it until my husband asks if I'm ever going to put it back on.
I took mine off when I was pregnant with AJ for the last month or so because they didn't fit anymore.
Other than that, I never take them off. Honestly, I probably would take them off more in the kitchen when cooking if I ever remembered to do it before they got dirty. As it is, I realize as soon as I plunge my hands into a bowl of peanut butter or something that I should have taken them off and at that point, its too late!
I don't wear mine while doing dishes, showering, or making a recipe that involves getting my hands dirty. Sometimes I will take them off when I am working out.
The only downside to that, is I generally forget to put them back on so James Bond will give me grief about it.
I'm with you--I'd never wear mine swimming! Oh my God, what if I lost it down a filter or something, gasp! I usually don't wear mine when I'm working out--sometimes if I'm running, but not if I'm doing the elliptical or weights.
I don't wear mine in the shower or much when I am home for the night. I can't stand to sleep with them on either. My hands tend to swell and get sweaty so it has to come off!
I usually always have mine on. I used to take it off when I put lotion on, but I lost it for 2 days doing that, so now I just get it dirty. I'll stick take them off if I'm really sinking my hands in raw meat and I can't wear them now that I'm so far along in my pregnancy.. I miss them!
I almost never take mine off, like alot of you have said I feel naked without mine. I take mine off when I'm working with my fondant & modeling chocolate cause its a pain to clean off rings. The only other time is when I was pregnant the second time and my fingers swelled & they cut off my circulation.
I leave it on for just about everything, except for doing dishes, working with meat/cooking, and putting on lotion/sunscreen. I don't want to get it all gross with that stuff, although I guess in the shower it could get soap and conditioner all up in it.
It's so funny you wrote a post about this. I just read a big thing on this topic on "project wedding" the other day. Some of the women's responses surprised me. I guess I learned that people have different comfort levels with jewlery (like it irritates some women to have rings on, they are afraid of their bed sheets scratching the ring, etc). I'm not engaged yet - but I have a ring that I wear all the time. I only take it off to clean it. I'll probably be the same way with a diamond.
But that's just me. Everybody is different and that's okay :)
I don't wear my engagement ring everyday anymore because shortly after we got married, I knocked one of the little diamonds in the halo around the center stone out and it scared the holy bejesus out of me! Luckily the jeweler replaced it (and free of charge!) but said there would be no more free replacements like that.. So I only wear it when I'm going out now.
And I purposefully chose a simple wedding band so I wouldn't have to worry about knocking any diamonds out. It's a plain white gold band and it never leaves my finger! I love it.
I leave mine on all the time. If I were to take it off, I would lose it. I am so bad about that, so in order to keep it safe, I keep it on all the time. It's easier to clean it than to replace it entirely. Obviously I am one of the rare ones... ha ha ha. Seems everyone here with the exception of 2 or 3, take theirs off for specific reasons. :)
(had a couple of annoying grammatical errors, needed to re-post)
I hardly wear my wedding rings. With us being in Hawaii we spend a lot of time at the beach. So between that and cooking and baking, it's just seems easier to not wear them bc I would hate to lose or damage them.
Can't say that I've ever taken mine off for much of anything, I can't even think of the last time I removed mine come to think of it.
Usually I take off all jewelry when I'm doing water activities or sports.
For the first few weeks after getting engaged, I took it off and put it in a special box so I wouldn't mess it up. After a while, I stopped doing that and wear it all the time. I'm so worried it will get lost or I'll forget it that I just don't take it off.
I never wear mine in the shower and I try not to wear it in the pool either. I also never, ever wear it while doing dishes. Other than those three things I normally always have it on, I definitely can't leave the house without it!! :)
I always wear my engagement and wedding rings - unless putting on lotion. And after the pumpkin pie debacle of 2008 I take my rings off when using my hands to smush things while cooking... I had to explain to the jeweller "if you could just clean the inside, there's pumpkin pie filling trapped under the stone..."
Oh, and during deployment I wear my husband's wedding ring on a chain around my neck, but I'm not so good about that - I have been known to leave it home if it doesn't gowith my outfit. Bad military wife, I know. :)
I take mines off all the time - for dishes, cooking, shower, working out and specailly for swimming! Actually, I have started wearing them on the chain around my neck this summer. This way I have to take it off only when I shower and go swimming, not other 33 times in the day as well. I feel naked without my rings so keeping them around my neck and on my skin helps. I put them back on the hand in the evening when we go out.
I only take off my rings to lift weights, put on lotion, or knead dough. Other than that, it's on. I'm mostly just worried that if I take them off, I"ll forget where I put them!
I never really take mine off unless I'm messing with them. Recently I've been only wearing my wedding ring to work though because I'm not so fond of the idea of bleach getting all over my engagement ring.
I dont think that when i get my wedding set that I will be taking it off too often. I would definitely lose my head if it weren't attached. But generally wedding rings are made for the every day wear and tear, showers, cooking (eeew and right on with all the dough and raw meat mentioning, I think I would take mine off then too), cleaning, swimming, all these normal things... Rings are generally going to be okay in. Also, I am definitely going to get the insurance on mine! Because I just KNOW that shits gonna happen. It will be nice to have that extra little security knowing that it will get fixed.
I pretty much only take mine off when I am cooking or putting on lotion after a bath. Otherwise, I have a bad habit of misplacing them!
I must say, I never take mine off. when I cook I use tools and tongs. I hate touching food so no hand kneading for me.
I wear my ring in the shower and in the pool.
Its really never off, unless its being re rhodium flashed... like right now. ( its killing me to not have it too)
I made the mistake of asking for white gold, and apparently my skin devours the rhodium and so my ring has to be re flashed every 6 months...
But i have ( knock on wood) never lost stone. and If I do, our warranty covers its replacement... I Love my warranty
