Drips, Trips and Packages

Drips

They came and turned on the A/C at the USO today. Unfortunately it started dripping water and currently is not working. Gotta love that! However, I've probably sweated off several pounds from this heat, so that's the upside.

Trips

Sean has now decided he wants to head over to Torino(Turin) and maybe over to France. Here's my question for your military European gals. Can I use my No-Fee passport to travel? The passport office here says no, people on-post say yes. Let me know your two cents.

Packages

I got four packages in the mail today. Do you know how excited that made me? If I wasn't about to pass out from heat exhaustion I probably would have done a jig right in the post office. I got in the present for Sean, two travel books (Germany and Spain) and my long-awaited arrival of Forever 21 stuff. (Ok..so it's only been a week, but Forever 21 packages make me feel like a kid at Christmas) I cannot wait to bust out some of the dresses I got! They are beyond cute.

Tomorrow some of the bigwigs from the USO are coming here. That means I'll be in black pants, nice shoes and a hot polo shirt. Should be a treat! At least I get to go out to a nice dinner with them though.

Was it an actual water leak or pools of sweat that they were seeing?

When I applied for my new travelers passport, the people at the passport office told me that I wasn't "supposed" to use my no-fee one but that people do it all the time. Also, when I went to the airport to fly back to the states, they didn't even want to see my new one, they only cared about my no-fee one because it had the stamp. :)

What is a no-fee passport? Is that the inexpensive, military version of a passport? I was wondering how they handled that.

You're this close to getting AC! Woo hoo!! You'll have to take pictures of the dresses!

I think people travel on the red one all the time. I can't decide which one I will use but I got both. I'd go ahead and apply for the blue one too. Also, i've been to Innsbruck. Deaner and I went last summer. IT was very cool but there is not a ton to see there. we were on our way to berchtesgarten when is one of my favorite places on earth. We are going to rome this weekend! We want to hit it up before the crowds!

Oh no! I hope they get it fixed soon so you'll have some AC again!

I love getting packages in the mail. It's always so exciting. I get really excited when I see forever 21 packages in my box!

Ugh... a heat wave is no fun without AC. I actually thought it got hot in Italy. I'm surprised to hear there is no air there. We are hoping to go there next... fingers crossed! :D

stay on the safe side and get a tourist passport. you can get by with your no fee but its a risk.

You sure know you're an optimistic girl when you're praising a broken A/C because you're sweating off some pounds :)

I feel your pain with a heat wave and no ac. We too live in a land where they dont embrace AC (and we're in the darn USA!). Hang in there and I hop eyou do sweat off some pounds.

No clue about the passport. Wish I knew. And I CANNOT live without a/c. Just can't I keep my a/c crazy low. I enjoy having to use blankets.

Oh no! Dripping AC?? Maybe they should have tested it as soon as it started getting hot?
Can't wait to see the new dresses!

Yes you can travel on your no-fee. That is the only one I have in my married name so I use it. Just make sure to bring along your military ID.

It's starting to get a little warm here this week! No where near sweating, but we will get there. Our bowling alley on base has AC, so I know a lot of people hang out there. Maybe yours does?

I love packages! They make my whole day.... I bet you were stoked to get your Forever 21 package! It's kind of like Christmas ;)

Technically can you travel on the no fee? Yes. Legally are you supposed to? No.

It's only supposed to be used while moving in and leaving the country. Do more Italians or Europeans care? Probably not.

I've always used my no-fee passport ... if you are driving or going by train you'll only need it for your hotel. No more border crossings with the EU (and no more stamps either!) I've never worried too much about it.
Have fun this weekend, wherever you go! We're headed to Cannes :)

We were having this discussion recently at work, and apparently you used to be able to use your no-fee to travel, but they (whoever "they" are...) have decided that you need a tourist passport now for traveling within Europe. I guess military guys used to be able to just show their orders and ID card to go to France or whatever, and now you can't do that. You have to have a travel passport.

That is also what I was told when we first moved over here. I always just carry both when I travel...but my no-fee looks exactly like my tourist passport, so I don't see how anyone would know the difference anyhow.

We have had customs guards look at the dates in our passports before and ask why we had been in Germany so long on JUST a passport - that was the one time that I brought my travel passport and NOT my no-fee...it's all very confusing to me...that is why I just carry both!
