Thanksgiving Recipes

It's no secret that Thanksgiving is my second favorite holiday. Now that we're in the month of November, I'm preparing myself for my fourth year of cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Although I love cooking for people, I must admit I won't be sad when Sean and I move back to the States and we don't have to cook the entire Thanksgiving meal by ourselves.

I've already bought two Thanksgiving magazines (Rachel Ray and Family Circle) but I wanted to ask my blog readers what some of their favorite Thanksgiving dishes are. Is there something special you make? Something new recipe you tried that you can't live without?  Let me know what it is! I'd like to add a new dish (or two) to my table this year.

We pretty much make the standard stuff (green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, corn, stuffing, etc.)

I used Pioneer Woman's mashed potato recipe, and it was pretty tasty! You can't go wrong with any of her stuff.

I think those are good resources! You could also try allrecipes.com, they have great recipes with reviews. Pioneer Woman's recipes are also great, I agree with Tootie!:)

My family makes egg noodles and we put them on mashed potatoes. We're German. We like carbs. :) We also serve turnips at Thanksgiving as well. I don't eat them, but the rest of my family gobbles them up.

I love homemade cranberry sauce with orange zest and pomagranate seeds. So yummy on turkey sandwiches! I also filled the turkey cavity with chopped apple, onions, sage, and some cider.

We do all the cooking for holidays too! It seems a lot of young military couples without children have yet to master cooking holiday feasts. Lol. Last year I made this AMAZING sweet potato casserole that I'm dying to eat again. But I don't have the recipe on me right now (home on leave) so I'll have to post it later!

This is my favorite way to eat cranberries (aside from the gelatinous tin can version that my husband adores so much):
Cranberry Waldorf Salad. It probably should be a dessert, but I make it a required side dish at our Thanksgiving table :-) You will need: 1/2 lb (2 cups) whole fresh cranberries, 3 cups mini marshmallows, 1/2 cup of sugar, 2 cups diced Granny Smith apples (with skin on) and one cup of whipping cream. Grind cranberries (but don't liquify, think of it as a fine chop) then add sugar towards the end. While cranberries are going, whip your whipping cream to a good, fluffy texture. In a large bowl, stir together marshmallows and apples then add cranberry/sugar mixture. Fold in whipped cream and chill overnight. My favorite dish :-)

I just found your blog, as we're moving to Italy in December and I've been googling like crazy. Love it! To answer your question though, we've recently added a creamed corn dish to our holiday line up...it tastes exactly like Rudy's BBQ:
