So, while I was in NYC, one of the things I did was go to a taping of a Food Network show. My friend Brittni got us tickets to be taste tasters for a new show that's going to air on Food Network this summer and of course I was uber excited to go. What's better than getting free food AND being on TV? Not much I tell you.
However, our experience didn't turn out quite like we thought it would.
It started out normal enough, we arrived at the location they told us, signed in, filled out some paperwork and then waited to go in to the set. The set was basically two restaurants and we got to pick which one we went to. Finally our time came around to go in and so we decided on a restaurant. An hour later and we still hadn't been seated, along with about 12 other people. Needless to say I wasn't happy. I was hungry and tired of standing.
Finally we are seated and the waitress comes to take our order. She was an actress by the way, not a real waitress. Anyway, we order and eagerly await our food. At first it goes ok. We get our first two courses (out of 5) and they are pretty good. Then the main course that everyone had raved about was due to come out. Our waitress comes over to us and tells us that they're out of that main course, so we'll have to skip ahead to the next course. My friend and I were not happy about that, but we tried to shrug it off and waited for the next course.
I can honestly say that I think the next course had sand in it. It was a sort of vegetable pie and I guess the veggies weren't washed well? Because I bit down on it and crunched sand. It was so loud my friend actually said, "Is that sand?!"
Dessert was supposed to be up next, which was a sampling of three separate desserts. Our waitress came out again and told us they were out of desserts. At this point my friend was angry and told her to get a producer over there because we were leaving. We couldn't leave though, because the judges were now in our restaurant and the way the camera angles were, we ended up in the shot. So for editing purposes we could not leave.
Thankfully, after the judging the chef came out personally to our table (and a few others) and asked us what he could get us. Somewhere they found a few desserts, so I did get to enjoy dessert....finally.
It was an experience! We were supposed to be there for only 3 hours, but ended up there for six. I think they only way we made it through it was because the bartender was friendly and kept supplying us with glasses of wine. Otherwise...I'm not sure what would have happened.
The episode is supposed to air in late July/early August and I'm pretty positive you'll be able to see me in the background of the judging shots. So, once it gets closer to time I'll let you guys know the name of the show and when it will be on.

Oh this is Top Chef isn't it? This sounds super familiar to other episodes I have seen before.
How cool that you get to be on TV! How was the food by the way?
well that BITES!!!!! I would be super aggravated if that happened to me!!!
How fun to be on tv, but it would be better if there was a fun happy story to go alond with it!!!
It's cool that you're going to be on TV, but not so cool that it wasn't a fun experience. You would think they would want to make sure you had a great time, so you would rave about the show to get ratings up.
That's exciting that you were able to be on TV, even if the experience wasn't that great!
now I'm dying to know what the show is! That's cool you got to be behind the scenes, but I know it must have been so annoying waiting for food. I hope it was good!
Well uh at least it was a new experience. LOL
That sounds like it was exciting!!
I'm sorry the experience sucked, but I can't wait to see you on TV!!!! It's something you'll never forget, for sure!!!!
Love the food network! Can't wait to hear the name of the show and watch and see you! :)
Sorry the experience wasn't the best!
Ok, even though it sounded like a long ordeal, I still am SOO jealous! I love the food network! You definitely have to let us know when it airs!!
Super cool! How are they not prepared if this is airing on TV. Hum.. at least you had a decent time, and hey you get to be on TV!! ha
Ohh how exciting. I've always wondered how shows on Food Network worked. Sad that they kept running out of food, you'd think that they would have had enough knowing how many were sitting in each section.
I would love to be able to go on a show like that someday. But I'm sad to hear how disappointing it was. I think I could understand more if the food was bad instead of not that. But I've seen episodes of Hell's Kitchen before where they close the kitchen and no one gets to finish their meal. So I guess that's the chance you take on a reality show.
How fun to be on tv, but it would be better if there was a fun happy story to go alond with it!!!

This is so freakin' exciting! I have to admit I'm a tad bit jealous. I love the food network! Food and tv are a magical combination for me...hehe :) I can't wait to check out the show!
So I've been watching 24 hour restaurant battle, and I'm pretty sure that must be the show you were on! Do you know when your episode is gonna air? :)
