I had a bit of a scary episode today at the gym.
I have an issue sometimes where I believe my blood sugar gets too low and I get very hot and sweaty all of a sudden, but also clammy, shakey and I can tell if I don't get some sugar in my system that it's going to go bad very quickly.
I'm not sure what triggers it, but my guess is food. It alwyas happens a few hours after I eat and it's usually after I have something sweet like a cherry limeade or in today's case a bowl of frosted mini wheats.
It doesn't happen a lot, but when it does it's pretty scary.
Does anyone else ever have this happen to them?

Yupp used to happen to me quite frequently actually and I went to the doctor for a total different reason and ended up finding out I was hypoglycemic! I don't really have to do anything for it like diabetics do but I have to watch what I eat and how often I eat and make sure I get enough sugar in my system but not too much especially at one time!
I would suggest making an appointment and taking that horrible sugar test and letting them find out what it is. You never know it might be something simple and you will be glad you know what it is.
I sometimes experience things like that no matter what I've ate earlier and that is why I always carry water with myself and a few drops in my pocket. I also have a really low blood pressure and I've used to be anemic (I am not anemic these days) what several times ended in losing consciousness. My doctor told me that even I feel I NEED something sweet immediately the best option is to take something salty since salt raise blood pressure. My problem is not being diabetic but having low blood pressure. But carring drops around is much easier (and more satisfying) than carrying salt. LOL
Not good! I would definitely get that checked out and take the *awful* sugar test so they can figure it out for you, just in case.
Sounds like it could be hypoglycemia to me. You should get that checked out by a doctor- we don't want you getting hurt!
Yikes that sounds like classic hypoglycemia symptoms. It makes sense that it would happen after drinking cherry limeade because sugary drinks probably make your blood sugar spike and then plummet. Frosted Miniwheats, although they have a lot of fiber probably contain a good deal of simple sugar as well. But who knows. Probably seeing the doctor would be a good idea... in the meantime make sure you always have a quick source of sugar with you - in case you have another episode. Also eating smaller, evenly spaced meals (high in fiber and complex carbohydrates, low in simple sugars) throughout the day can help.
Sounds like hypoglycemia. You should give up sugar. A coworker of mine has it, and she can't eat ANY sugar, even ones from fruits and veggies. When I get hungry, I get very nauseated until I get food in me, so I always have to carry around think thin or cliff bars in my purse. Sucks. I hope you can get to a doctor and get checked out!

Ditto on the hypoglycemic. I have hypoglycemia and I go through the exact same thing!
It happens to me if I go too long without protein. I hate it.
It definitely sounds like a classic case of hypoglycemia. I would go get checked out for it so you can learn the best ways to manage it. You definitely don't want to mess with that!
Well everyone has already said what I was going to say ha. It may not be hypoglycemia for you if it happens rarely, but it just means that you should watch your diet with what you're putting in your mouth. It sucks. The second day my husband and I were together I just about passed out on him, it was nothing new to me but he was a little freaked out ha.
I would get to your base clinic and get it checked out. My mom has this happen to her weekly. She is borderline diabetic. Just seeing someone go through is scary let alone feeling it! eek

This would happen to me a lot before hard core workouts. Sometimes it happens after workouts too. I've been tested for hypoglycemia and diabetes and both times they said i was fine...
I've found that eating oatmeal, with some dried fruit/nuts in it helps. If that doesn't happen then I will eat an energy bar (the Cliff Bar variety) crammed with protein before a workout and down a 32 oz bottle of water. Making sure I am super hydrated before/during/after seems to help too.
Don't go for sugar that is in candy, instead bring an orange or banana with you to the gym so you can slowly eat it when you get these episodes. A doctor once told me after I blacked out during a game that sleep was also the issue, and I needed more of it. If none of these things help then it is time to see your doctor.

I am diabetic so this happens to me all the time. I carry a protein bar with me to the gym and sometimes I have to eat it. I am very careful with what I eat, btu there are still days when my sugar dips a bit too low. I would go to the Dr. and have them do a glucose test on you to make sure it is nothing more serious.

What you are explaining in my blog has only happeed to me once. I was in Arkansas on leave with the hubby and it hit me like a ton a bricks, a Moutain Dew and a Reese Cup later I was good! (so so bad to do lol )
Hey there. I have been following your blog for a while as I am new army wife too. To answer your question you are more than likely hypoglycemic. You will need to do a blood sugar test but it is great to know. I had a VERY scary episode three years ago with on a field trip with my 100 middle school students. I passed out in the bathrooms and some girls from another school found me. They had to call an ambulance and everything. Just know if your blood sugar goes too low it is often more dangerous than too high. Here is the key: NEVER eat carbs in the morning or before a workout. NEVER NEVER NEVER. Protein only. You will feel a hundred times better and won't crash and burn. Email me and I will fill you in on some other good hints. Tammy
