Monday Musings

I swear our landlord is an idiot and I'm convinced the people in the housing office may not be much better. As I've posted, we have a mold problem in our apartment, but just on one wall that happens to run the length of three rooms. On Saturday, our landlord brought someone to check it out. His advice? To open our windows for an hour a day and then run our air conditoner for 2 hours each day.

Umm...what? Pretty sure that's going to do jack-crap as mold is still continuing to grow. The stupidest thing is that if our apartment were as humid as they are saying it is, then we'd have mold everywhere....not just on one wall in the house. I asked housing today to send out their inspector to look at it. I want documentation of this, so eventually when this mold doesn't clear up and I want to move out I'll have it all on paper. It's just so frustrating!

In other news...I'm leaving for Oklahoma next week! I'm excited, but I feel like a bad dog mom because I'm not taking Boomer. I just hate traveling with him and I'm always paranoid something is going to happen to him. Luckily, the lovely Becca has agreed to take in Boomer for the time I'll be gone. I know he's in good hands with her, so I'm not worried about him, but I sure will miss him!

Last, but not least I wanted to say I won't be posting much between Wednesday and when I leave for Oklahoma. I will not have my laptop and therefore will have to blog at the library. I think most of you know the reasoning behind this.

yikes, mold, no fun. Well the germans are quite fond (fanatical?) of airing out the aparments. I'm always told that we need to get some fresh air in by daily opening the windows for about 5 minutes, twice a day. Maybe this really does something!

Hope your trip goes smoothly! I hope you also have someone to check on your house so that that mold doesn't take over while you're gone!

Open the windows and run the AC when it's 40 degrees out?? Who's going to pay for THAT?? I think this is one of those situations where you are just going to have to continue to badger housing until they come up with a reasonable solution. Once they know you're not going away and you're going to continue to bother them, they'll work something out. What a pain!

We can't wait for Boomer to visit!! He's going to have so much fun with us. Don't worry about him one bit!

This is kind of different, but kind of the same. I was without hot water for 3 days before my housing rep did anything to fix it. Four days later it still wasn't fixed despite my calling every single day. Eventually I was so pissed that I lost it completely (hey, I hadn't had a hot shower in a week) on a poor receptionist. The next day they called an outside contractor to examine my house, and they found out my gas had a tag on it. I paid my bill in full earlier in the month. Awesome huh? I feel your pain.

We were stationed in Italy for 3 years. I know it sounds crazy/nuts but your landloard is right.

I remember our first night in Italy. The sponsor team dropped us off at our TLA (it was a small Italian home) and the first thing they did was open the windows.
The other great thing to do is mix a bottle of bleach and water. Spray your walls at least once a week. I MISS ITALY so much!

As it happens I am also from Okalhoma. If you happen to drive by Choctaw wave to my family for me. We haven not been home in a while! Have a safe trip...

Ah, yes. Moldy Italian homes. There are very few that aren't to some degree. Funny thing is our bedroom was the hottest room in the house all year round, so even in the dead of winter, our bedroom window was always open a bit. It was the only room we had mold in. I kept a bottle of bleach and would spray the corners every week or so or more if I saw it start creeping back in the two corners it seemed to like.

Happy and safe travels!
