But I Don't Want To!

Work that is. Ok let me just clarify by saying I do like to work. I honestly do. What I do not like is working for other people. I mean, there are times you get great bosses and I've had a few in my day, but then on the other hand you also can't get really craptastic people and I've had one or two of those recently.

My mom keeps mentioning me looking for a job around post and finally I told her yesterday that I really didn't have an interest in finding another job while we were here. In all honesty I'd rather work on my Masters and work on my photography.

I'd rather not work for someone again, unless I'm working for a school as a librarian. I don't want another part-time or even full-time job where I'm unhappy with the hours or my job duties. I think I've come to the point where I'd rather just have my own photography business and be my own boss. Sure..it's a lot of work, I'm not kidding myself there, but I think I'd rather take on extra work then have a crappy boss in a job I'm not passionate about.

So looks like unemployment and I will be friends for awhile longer.

I hear ya! I'm still unemployed down here at Camp Swampy, and I think it's because I was just plain old BURNED OUT after 6 years in the defense industry at a company notorious for their workplace politics. After spending my last year trying to fight the system to get a promotion I totally deserved, it just made sense for me to quit when I moved instead of trying to work from home. Ack. A bad employer can have such a huge impact on your attitude in your entire life, so I say kudos to you for rejecting that.

I'm still in limbo about whether I'm going to try to do an MS in Library Science... but I can't wait to hear about your journey if you go that route. :)

I think that's great! I'm pretty sure every military wife has done some random job that they were completely overqualified for just to have a job, at some point. Good for you for doing what you want!

I hear ya'. It doesn't get any better once you have your Masters, working somewhere random that is. Believe me...unless you are able to actually do what you want. It's so annoying. I was working just to work, and decided that's it! I'm not doing this anymore. We don't need the money and I don't need the headache. When I work again, it will be doing what I want to do, not just working for work's sake.

I with ya girlfriend! When we came out here I was faced with not HAVING to work for the first time in my life. A lot of people pushed me to get a job just to have something to do, but I just wasn't having it. Now I'm in a place, volunteering, where I am completely happy. Doing something because I WANT to, not because I HAVE to for the money!

As a side note: are you thinking of getting your Masters in Lib. Science? I've always played around with that idea, but unfortunately need to finish my Bach. first. What did you get your bachelors in?

I think it's different when you live overseas as well. The job market is not the same and the choices are very limited. I am looking forward to not working next year and just working on school. Doing both is REALLY hard!

I agree. I mentioned this to my mom, but I think she forgot what the military is like. When Mark has time off, I generally won't. I can't take vacation every time he has a 4 day weekend. And additionally, if I were working an hourly job, they treat you like a small child and would probably fire me for taking off 3 days consecutively. I think that's why this crossfit thing is going to work out so well.

I haven't really worked a real job yet - unlesss you count all those part-time fast food jobs. But I am interning right now and even though it is not the most exciting thing, I am happy with what I am doing. I believe it's difficult to be completely satisfied with something. I always try to make the best of what I have and it seems to work for me.

Good for you. Working a crappy job is no way to live life if it makes you that miserable. I'm sure you'll figure out which route you want to take now that you have the extra time to think it through.
