Polished and Perfect

I have always envied the women that always look polished, pulled together and perfect.

You know the ones I'm talking about. Flawless make-up, amazing hair, impeccable manicures, perfectly fitting clothes with just the right shoes and accessories.

I've come to the conclusion that I will never be one of those women.

It's not that I don't try...I do try to look nice, but as hard as I try I can never come across as one of the Polished.

I knew some girls like this in college who could be wearing jeans and an alma mater sweatshirt and still look pulled together.

How do they do that?

I mean seriously...how?

I think my problem mainly is that I just look young. I always get asked if I'm younger than I am and the other day someone asked my age and when I told them 25 they honestly looked shocked. It doesn't offend me, I just don't understand why I look so young.

Maybe it's just my innocent face.

Kidding

I have to say though, that although I may not look polished it could be worse.

Instead of looking young I could look white trash.

Guess there's a positive side to this. *laughs*

I have a good friend who is one of those that always looks polished. Like honestly, one day she overslept and came into class late.... she looked the EXACT same and all she did was roll out of bed, put some shoes on, and walk in. I also will never be one of those girls. It would be nice though!

I know what you mean! A lot of times (especially if I'm going to the grocery store), I'm in work-out clothes. But, I'm like you - I've accepted that I won't look like a movie star when I'm out in public.

People may have different thoughts about your level of polishedness. :) For instance, I have a friend (and former Miss Texas) that I think ALWAYS looks amazing. Barf. However, I was told last week that I always look put together and flawless. I think I always look pale and frumpy. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?

People are always SHOCKED when they find out I have three kids, or that I am 28. Apparently I looked like I am 20 years old....

Me... polished? By no means. But, like you, I try to always look nice. No small feat with my three small children :)

No matter how hard I try, I'll never be one of those polished girls either...and I'm ok with it.

I'm exactly like that too. Try as I might, my clothes, makeup, hair...something always looks out of whack! I used to be far more self conscious about it, but the older I get, the more accepting I am that that's just not me.

I also look much younger than I am. I'll be 28 this summer and I still get carded at the bars...let's hope that continues into my 30's!

Cute post...I'm pretty sure many of us feel the same way you do:)

OH I am right there along with you! I very much wish that I could throw on a hoodie and jeans, throw my hair up, and still look like a goddess! I do make an effort to look nice in public, but I just had to had to come to the conclusion that it won't be quite that effortless!
I'm 25 as well. I make people guess when they ask how old I am.. I usually get 18. My mom says we'll all be very thankful for that in our 40's!!

I'm sure I would think you look put together and polished if I saw you! You're always posting cute, perfect clothes so I'm sure you have a great sense of style!

I think you always look polished in your pictures!!

Yep, I know what you mean. It takes a lot of dedication to your look. I don't have that.

I'm always the unpolished girl, too. Even when I really try! But it's sort of OK with me because I really love that I'm low-key and can get out the door in 20 minutes.

I completely know this feeling! I'm definitely not one of those girls either. Even when I try my HARDEST to look so cute and trendy...I still end up not getting that polished look that I want!
I'm right there with ya girl! :)

I read your blog often, and really enjoy it. I also get asked how old I am and get the 'shocked' look. It really gets them when I tell them I have been in the military for 9 years. The other day I was told I look like am 15. It doesn't help that I am only 5 feet tall either. I finally cut my hair to a sassy short bob and appear a *little* older.

looking young is great, enjoy it.I wish I looked more polished but I feel that I never pull it off but I do get told that I look too young to be a grandmother alot so I'll just enjoy that.have a great day....Barb

I totally feel you. People never believe me when I tell them I'm 28. I get carded constantly, and then they just stare at me to make sure it's not a fake id... The way I see it, when we're 40 - we will LOVE this feature!!!!

I worked this week with a woman who is one of the polished. She's my age, but she just looks pulled together, even when she's casual. Then there's me. lol

I get carded all the time, but that's stopped a little bit. But I have red hair and freckles, especially in the summer, so I look young too.

Maybe we should have a class on polished and perfect! But only if it means I can be out the door in 30 minutes or less! :)

I am always have the outfit, the make-up and the jewelry but I never feel polished either.

Then again, I have the same problem. I am 28 and people think I am "maybe 21." Are you kidding me? Though, I guess we will like it when people think we are in our late twenties/early thirties and we are really pushing 35-40...ha ha ha

I so know what you mean! I can never look great, never put together and I don't really have any excuse as to why it just never seems to work! There is only rare occasions that I look good. Oh well, look at it this way, you look gorgeous in your wedding pics and those will be around FOREVER so at least the important stuff is covered right?

I have to say, I try, I really do. Everyday I get up, I do my hair and my face- I think mostly it is a "Southern Thing"- Maybe the whole polished and perfect has more to do with state of mind than anything else. If I am getting ready to go to work, I do my face and hair, but then I put on my military uniform (that new horrible shade of green camo stuff) and I look AWFUL! Or, I can put on my jeans and a cute blouse and look and feel attractive and put together. When you feel good about yourself, the radiance is projected on others and they see you as more attractive. As for looking really young... be thankful, one day you are going to turn around and be staring at the face of a forty year old in the mirror.

Haha - I'm the same way. I always try, but I seem to run out of time and patience to look polished. I think I look presentable!

lol, I never look polished, I think. I do get a little envious of those that look cute the moment they roll out of bed. Or at least every time they are out.

You most likely have far more style in your little pinky than I could dream of possessing!

Oh well, I take comfort when I see most Army females. Not all are slobs, but the ones I see are!

im never going to be the polished mom but so long as im good with it then im on my merry way. i like to think that people like that are just making up for something. just be who you are and be happy. : )

Yup that's me too! Polished and perfect is very rare for me--comfort and practicality trump matching accessories and cute heels most days!

I know exactly what you mean. I sometimes work with a girl who is a vegetarian who teaches yoga and is going to be a massage therapist, who happens to have perfect flawless tanned skin, white teeth, NO MAKEUP that I can see... And she looks beautiful in her white sweatshirt that she apologized for wearing because it was pretty casual for work. YEASH.

So yeah, that's not me either. But it comforts me to hear that there are other unpolished gals out there who are okay with being unpolished. :)

Where are you woman!?!?
I've seriously been missing hearing from you. I'm beginning to have Melissa withdrawal symptoms; worry, loneliness, fatigue. Ha, I think all of this Pharmacology crap is going to my head!

I hear ya! I never feel like I look all polished and perfect, but I also don't spend three hours trying to get ready to go somewhere...maybe that's the key?! Either way, cute site!
