Have You Been to Dublin?

Sean and I have will be taking a trip to Dublin in a few weeks and since I know my blog readers are so well-traveled and helpful, I thought I'd ask you guys for some advice.

Now, we don't have time in Dublin. With the way our flights worked out, we have about two and half days to spend there.

I do know that we want to see Trinity College and the Book of Kells and I think we'd like to take one of the tours out to the countryside to see some of the places away from the city.

So, if you have tips on where to eat, drink, things to see or any tours, let me know. I don't need any recommendations for accomodations, as I've already got those booked.

Thanks!

We really enjoyed the Guinness brewery and the Jameson distillery. Also make sure you visit some of the pubs.

Oh, I hope you love it! I studied abroad in Dublin almost 11 years ago, and I've heard it's changed a TON since then, but I have a very special place for it in my heart. I lived at Trinity, so I can't wait to see your photos from there :) I'll second the Guinness factory, and also go to the General Post Office (GPO) which was the headquarters for the Easter uprising of 1916. It's a very walkable city, so take some time to just wander a bit.

For a daytrip to the countryside, I think my top recommendation would be the Ring of Kerry. It would make for a very long day, but I think it's the most beautiful part of Ireland. Enjoy!

I have been there. You can't miss the college, it is right in the middle of the city. You walk by it a million times. I went to Guinness and Jameson and loved it. I also spent a lot of time in the temple bar district, soaking up the local bands and the beers from around the world. YUM! I also went to Blarney, and LOVED it out there. The countryside on the train ride out there is postcard perfect. I went to the oldest pub, there is a picture on my facebook of me in the front of it. The food was OMG smack your mom good. It was a run down place, but the food! HELLO!

We went to the Guinness storehouse, spent a lot of time walking/eating/drinking in Temple Bar. We also did the tour of Dublin Castle, which was cool. It's probably worth checking out St. Patrick's cathedral if you want to drop the cash on it (Church of Ireland churches don't have free entry like Catholic ones).

We also went to the zoo, which was pretty nice! There is a nice pub along the way, too: Ryan's.

The tram "system" is pretty crappy compared to other major cities. The lines don't intersect, but the bus system is good. There are some pubs that are anti-tourist and will be marked by some dumb sign like "Locals Only". We also encountered 2 gangs of "feral children" roaming the streets late at night heckling tourists and trying to pickpocket, so be wary of them. :)

I recommend the Queen Maebh's Restaurant. It was within walking distance of our hotel (which I believe was the Davenport.. but can't remember for sure). My husband and I LOVED our meal there! The Guinness place is a lot of fun, and we also went to the Gaiety Theatre for Riverdance. If you find a local bar, go in and talk to the bartender. They always seem to know what fun festivals and activities are going on!
