Question of the Day

Today at work I had no Internet the entire time I was there. I may or may not have gone through withdrawls. It's scary how much I rely on the Internet for amusement. Don't get me wrong, I have other things that occupy my time, but it's so satisfying to check my email or to read your blogs.

Now on to the question of the day:

Do you have any tattoos? If so, what do they mean and what are they? If you don't have any, is there a reason that you don't?

I have no tattoos. Quite honestly there is nothing that I like/love that much to put on my body. That doesn't mean I don't find tattoos on others interesting, I just don't have any myself.

I didn't have internet for three days once and I thought I might actually die. It's so scary! I can't remember what I used to do with my time before the internet. Seriously.

I have tattoos. Three, actually. One of a rose because when I was 16 my mother looked at me one day and said "would you like to get a tattoo?" so I found one we both agreed on quickly before she changed her mind. One of a heart and a chinese symbol meaning "sister" that my sister also has a matching one of in the same spot. And one in white ink that spells "athena" in ancient greek. They are all in easily hideable spots or in white ink so you can't see them anyway. They are like pringles though, once you pop you just can't stop. They are addicting like yawning.

I don't have one but I am seriously considering getting one. It will be a symbol of my marriage and I am thinking about getting it before my husband comes home as a surprise for him. It will be in a hideable place but I'm not sure where yet.

I would love to have a tatoo, one downside though: I'm afraid of needles. So, I don't think I will ever be brave enough to get one.

My first tattoo was "Soulmate" in Gaelic, which was a matching tattoo with Rob. It's on my right hip. On my lower back I have a Celtic tree of life, which to me signifies my family and my Irish ancestry. My third was a flower on my left shoulder to celebrate getting through Rob's deployment. Finally, I added two doves above and below the flower to signify my two sisters and the impact they have had on my life.

I definitely want more. I'm thinking a collection of flowers on the other shoulder (a la the one you have on your blog) to signify the people in my life who have suffered from cancer (myself, my best friend, my grandmother, my sister-in-law).

Mine are all in hideable spots and I've never had a problem with them showing. I'm realistic and I know that not everyone will refrain from judgment.

I agree with Via that they are EXTREMELY addicting. And to Young Mom/Wife, I'm scared of needles as well, but they really aren't like a shot at all. You kind of forget it's a needle. It's more of a stinging sensation (still pretty painful) than a puncture.

I have the word "Faith" on the inside of my left ankle. It was a total impulse thing I did 3 years ago. Brian was getting one done (he has 3) and he and the tattoo guy talked me into it. Ok, I already was thinking about it so they didn't totally brainwash me into it or anything!

I've thought about getting more, but it's so hard, in my opinion, to choose a tasteful tattoo and a tasteful location. For now, the one I have is enough.

After 3 years I do not regret it and almost don't notice it anymore. When I do notice it, I smile because it reminds me of my husband and one of the few times in my life that I did something kind of crazy and impulsive.

I don't have any. You took the words right out of my mouth. I really just can't think of anything that I want permenantly on my body. Or that I'd want to go through that pain for.

I have none and no desire to get any for the same reasons as you. I have dreams about getting them and being so upset later. I would just get bored with one, and I think that's partly why people keep getting them.

I'm very much addicted to the internet myself!
As for the tattoos, I am also of your same thought. I haven't found or thought of anything I would like forever. I not against them-just don't have anything I want to see everyday. LOL.

I know! It's so hard going through the day without internet. I was stuck in an area for two days that didn't have access to internet and I was in shock!

As for the tattoos I don't have any. I've thought about it but when it comes down to it I think, "Ok what is this tattoo gonna look like when I'm 60?" And for that I haven't got one. Also I get tired of seeing the same things overs and over when it comes to decorations, etc so I think I'd get bored with whatever I got and wouldn't want to see it anymore.

I don't have any because of one word: regret. I know that something I may love now- I'll regret having in 10 years, 20 years, 40 years, etc.

We have a pretty extreme blocking system on our computers at work. To the extent that sometimes website I go to for work reason are blocked. I think the only big site that we are able to go it is wikipedia

As for tattoos I don't have any. I don't think I could deal with the pain. But even if pain weren't an issue I don't think I could decide on something to put on my body forever.

I've got 2; one on my left shoulder and one on my ankle. The one on my shoulder was my first and I was 19...stupid, stupid, stupid! It's not that it's ugly, it's just that I wish I had gotten it someplace else. It's a gecko and as soon as I can afford to, I'm having it removed. My second one I got when I was 21 and it's on my right ankle and it's the Green Bay Packers "G", now that one, I love! I don't regret it for a minute but I'm overly obsessed with the Packers!

You're right though, if it's not something you don't absolutely love, it'll end up being a mistake.

I have two tattoos... The first is a japanese symbol for wealth and prosperity (appropriate now that we are moving to Japan!) I got that one when I was in college and love it. My second one is right below the first one and reads: "La Bella Vita." The beautiful life! I designed it myself and my tattoo guy was amazing when he penned the lettering... gorgeous!! I am contemplating a third one, a cross (small) but I'm not sure Mr. Top Gun would approve of a third, and I don't know where to put it!

I love your blog, and I would love you to come follow me :)

Growing up around obstetrics, I have seen waaaay too many stretched out tattoos and it grosses me out. And then I think about my grandkids asking me about my wrinkly tattoo when I'm 80. I just can't commit to something like that. As my brother says, "I am now and will forever remain, untattooed."

I have two tattoos. One on my lower back, a Taurus symbol, because I'm a Taurus.(Obviously)

and the second is a Claddagh on my left wrist. My dad has the exact tattoo on his forearm. It means a lot to me because of my Irish ancestry.

I definitely want more tattoos, just haven't decided what and where ;)

Nope nope nope. I'm WAY to fickle for a tattoo.

It has also been ingrained in me that "tattoes are permanant reminders of temporary (usually) feelings". *R* and I joke about getting eachothers names tattoed around our ring fingers instead of wedding rings, but we both know it would never happen. We mostly do it to tease another couple friend of ours that actually does have that!

Good question!

I have 2 tattoos- both are hidden except if I'm in a bikini and that doesn't happen very often to begin with since I don't have many chances to go to the beach in this lovely place. haha. Half the time I forget I even have them since I don't see them much.

My first one I got when I was 18 because I could- it has no meaning and it got to the point where I started to regret it- half of me thinks I might want to get it removed and the other half thinks to just have our kids names put around it once we have them. It's a sleeping half crescent moon- with like star dust trial around it. It's pretty small and E really likes it for some reason.

The second I just got last Oct- E and I got matching tattoos before he headed off for deployment. I got 3 doves in a circle with his initials and our wedding date- he got 3 ravens with my initials- in Norse ravens have some sort of meaning which I can't remember. This one is a bit bigger and sometimes I wish it was a tad bit smaller but I love it because of what it symbolizes to us- it's on my left hip.

E has 3. The matching one to mine. Than he got one when he was like 13 of a shamrock for his heritage- I think at times he wishes he just got the shamrock and not the barb wire with it. And his last one he got his last year of college along with a bunch of his buddies from the rugby team- that one also means a lot to him and I love that one. It's around his thigh and in old English it says "We few we happy few we band of brothers so he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother," and that's a quote from Henry the 8th I think?

I really don't see myself getting anymore. E on the other hand thinks he'll get 1 more after we are finished with having children and get something with their names.

I really like tattoos and I do have two, I'd probably have one more or something larger but I didn't really want anything that I couldn't keep under wraps in certain circumstances. So the two I have are tucked away only to expose if I want to.

One I got when I was 19 and it's kind of blah and not much meaning just because I wanted a tattoo. I've considered getting something different to cover it. The other I got when I was 30 and I don't regret it, but I would change it if I could.

I like what Sara said about getting bored with them and wanting another... I think I'm just bored with mine.

I'm with kd -- I'm too grossed out by the thought of my tattoo getting all weird and stretched out during pregnancy. I did seriously consider getting a tattoo to match one my sister has on my side -- I still might do that one day, but I think the older I get, the less likely it is. :)

I've always thought about getting a tattoo but have never been able to commit to anything. I would have to really love it to have it on me for the rest of my life. Piercings though I did have an addiction to for awhile. Luckily I have conservative parents so it never got too crazy.

I hate not having internet. I've been away from my computer (at P's house) since Saturday, and thankfully I can check email on my phone or I'd be going stir crazy!

I have two tattoos. One of the Wisconsin "W" on my foot (I am a proud alumni of that great university!) and I got it last October. It is sorely in need of a touch up though.

My other tattoo is a Taurus symbol with an iris. Taurus is my sign and irises are my favorite flowers. :)
