Overseas Assignments

As many of you know we are currently overseas in Italy and I have mentioned a few times lately how Sean and I are thinking of extending our stay here by two years.

I had a low-key Girls Night last night and I mentioned the fact we might extend to two girls I'm friends with. They were shocked to put it mildly! One of them actually said, "You like it here?"

What's not to like? I mean, sure there are days when Italians or their way of doing things really get on my nerves. I also have days where I really really miss my friends and family at home. Quite honestly the only reason why I would not want to extend is because of my family and friends since I'd want to be closer to them, but in the grand scheme of things I'll probably live close to them for the rest of my life. So living a couple more years overseas isn't that huge of a deal to me.

I get that overseas living isn't for everyone, but I think when you are young and without children that you should make the best of it (which all of us that were present last night fits that description) One of my friends has actually said she's seen everything she wanted to see. As far as I know she's been only to Rome,Venice, Florence and Munich, plus a few other places in Italy. I've been here a year and I haven't even see 1/10th of the places I want to see!

I don't know it just seems that you either love it here or you hate it here. I guess I'm thankful I've chose to love it.

I Heart Faces: Fix It Friday

Since I got in my new Photoshop yesterday, I've been editing photos like crazy.

So to test out my editing skills I decided to particpate in I Heart Faces Fix it Friday.

Here's the original:

Here's my edited version:

Basically I used a Coffee, Tea, Photography action called Johnna's Memories of Sunshine, adjusted the layer to about 30% Hard Color, then added a ruffled texture from ShadowHouse Creations.

Reunions

I'm kind of at a loss to blog today, so I'm going to do a question.

High school reunions: will you go or not? Why or why not?

Discuss!

Deployment Month 2 In Review

In Month 2:

-I went to the gym at least five days a week

-Read the following books: Firefly Lane, Not My Daughter, Something Borrowed, A Girl Named Zippy, My Life on Mars and I started on The Way the Crow Flies (which is horribly depressing and I had to quit reading)

-Had several Girls Night Out in which I ate sushi, delish Mom and Pop Italian food, and 3 trips to two different wineries

-Still have had almost daily contact with Sean, which makes this time apart much easier

-Went to Florence on a day trip and got to see the statue of David

-Worked on my college scrapbook and am now working on scrapping my junior year of college

-My new recipe I made of the month was lime cilantro shrimp salad. I'm still tweaking the sauce for it though

-Started attending a Bible Study about dealing with deployment

And my favorite pic from this past month:

Overall this month has gone by quickly! I hope that trend continues

Italy Observations

Evidently Italy has it's own version of the Schwan's Man. I believe it is called Bo Frost.

I heard Achy Breaky Heart on the radio today. Not something I thought I would hear while living in Italy.

One of the gate guards sounds like Patrick Stewart. I almost giggled today when he spoke to me. I felt like I was on the Enterprise.

Tailgating here is the worst I've ever seen it, worse than driving in Houston OR Dallas and that's pretty extreme people! It takes all I have not to slam on my breaks sometimes.

Question of the Day

So today's Question of the Day is a fashion question.

I "know" someone (no it's not me) who is wanting to wear this dress to a Battalion/Brigade Ball. Let me just say I'm all for not looking like everyone else, but I feel like military balls are not a place for really crazy get-ups. One, I don't like being referred to as the girl who wore that really crazy, ugly dress and Two, I like to make a good impression on the upper brass.

This is the dress.

I personally wouldn't wear it. I think the cut of the dress is good, but the patterns on it look like someone took those hideous 60's inspired black light posters and combined it in a dress.

Your thoughts?

Blizzard Bloghop

I thought I'd get in on the Blizzard Bloghop that's going on this weekend and maybe meet a few new people.

Blizzard Bloghop 2010 hosted by Household 6 Diva

My name is Melissa and instead of doing a lot of writing about who I am I thought I'd say it through pictures.

This is my husband Sean and I. Sean is in the military and we live in Italy.

This is our "son" Boomer. He's a 2-year-old Min-Pin and he's the cutest and naughtiest dog you'll ever meet.

Sean and I are from the great state of Oklahoma.

I graduated from this fine university with a degree that really gets me nothing in life. So..I'm thinking of going back to school and I'm also working on starting a photography business.

My main loves are:

Food

Photography

And Travel

Basically my blogs consist of what military life is like for me as a spouse, my frustrations, my loves, pictures I've taken and fun things like giveaways, Questions of the Day and odd items I find on Etsy.
