Jet-Setting

One of my favorite things about being stationed in Europe is the travel opportunities.

In the first year I was able to visit quite a few places and I hope to visit even more this year.

So far this is my preliminary travel plans for this year. I'm hoping more will be added as the year goes along.

January- at the end of the month I'm hoping to go to Florence to visit the Accademia gallery. I have yet to go there and I'd love to see the statue of David.

February- Lugano, Switzerland

March- Hoping for the spas at Baden-Baden with KD.

April- supposedly will be our R&R month. On the way back to Italy I've planned to stop in NYC and visit my friend Brittni for a few days.

May- hopefully Paris with KD!

June- my parents, brother and a couple who are good friends of my parents are coming to Italy. We'll be going on a 7 day Greek Cruise so I'll get to visit Croatia, Turkey and Greece. I'm muy excited about it! I'm most excited about seeing Santorini, Greece though. I've heard such wonderful things about it from everyone who's actually been there.

July- ideally I'd like to go to Norway (where some of my ancestors are from) for a birthday trip. But after an expensive cruise, I'm not sure that's going to happen.

The rest of the year is open as of now, but some places on my list to see are:

1. Plitvice Lakes in Croatia

Aren't they gorgeous?

2. Gimmelwald, Switzerland
3. Salzburg, Austria
4. Tons of Spain, there's so many places in Spain that I can't just name one
5. Rome, Italy(I've been here a year and still not been!)
6. Berlin, Germany
7. Krakow, Poland

Sean has been discussing the possibility lately that he may choose to extend our time here by 2 years, if that's the case it appears I might have some extra time to explore Europe. That would be a definite plus to staying overseas.

So...what are your travel plans this year? Any great vacations you've got planned?

  1. I don't think any of my travel plans sound half as nice as yours! I'm hoping our next unit sends us across the pond!

  2. You have a fun year planned and you will see so many amazing things! The only place we will go is back to the US. I have a wedding in CA in Sept I have to be at but other than that just local trips.

  5. First of all, I hope you are intending to leave Boomer with us for all these trips. I think Josie misses him!

The cruise sounds amazing! We've talked about taking one after the deployment, so I can't wait to hear about yours. Those lakes in Croatia look very cool too.

  7. I'm so jealous. I mean seriously jealous. =]
We're planning on taking our honeymoon finally on our back from CA to ND. I've never been to Yellowstone and I want to see what other national and state parks we can hit up along the way. Any suggestions?

  8. That sounds amazing! You should definitely stay for 2 more years, why not?! So far our only vacation plans this year is our trip to Nevada to go skiing with my family in December. I would love to go overseas though!

  9. I'm so excited to travel this year - as a Pacific Northwesterner, being on the East Coast - or in the South - whatever Virginia is called is absolutely mindboggling. I'm so excited to see more of the East Coast and the South. I cannot wait to see the historic sites in DC and the Civil War battlegrounds. I'm DYING to go to NYC. And I plan on going to visit friends in Orlando soon too. And I really want to see North Carolina mostly because I love Nicholas Sparks so much.

You should find Guided Steps. She's a milspouse who has been in Greece for the past few years and is actually coming back to the states. But she took lots of pictures so you can get an idea of what you want to visit, what to expect, etc.

  10. Fabulous opportunities for travel. Compared to that, I've got nothin'!

One of only two places I have been in Europe is Norway (the other being Italy), our family is from there as well. It was absolutely beautiful and an amazing trip, but heads up...it is expensive.

  11. I can't believe you've been there a year already! Time has seriously flown by!

I loved Santorini, Florence, Rome and Salzburg. And I would LOVE to go to Croatia. One of my BFF's from highschool is from there and goes back for a few months every other year. It sounds amazing!

  12. It sounds like you're making the best of being overseas, I wish I was so well traveled. I've been to Switzerland and Canada, that's the extent of my leaving the country.

  14. Your travel plans sound amazing! I think I'd enjoy us getting stationed in Europe!

My travel plans are non-existent this year, except for the (currently unscheduled but planned) trip to PA to meet P's parents and pick up his car. So exciting. LOL

I know P wants to do something together when he gets back, but it'll all depend on my job/living situation whenever he does get back here.

  17. Norway is super expensive, be prepared.

Go to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland. Stay at the hostel, watch the cows march down the street, take the gondola up to Grutschalp and walk over through Murren to Gimmelwald. We went to Lauterbrunnen six times, it never disappoints.

Have fun on all your trips!

  18. I'm so jealous!!! Hubs and I are scraping together some money to go to Spain for 2 weeks this summer, but flights are crazy expensive so that'll be the only trip we take for a long while I think. Hope you have a blast! I've always wanted to go to Greece!

  21. I'm so SO so envious of your travel plans! My husband and I just got our passports, and hope to make it somewhere this year... we also have a baby joining our family this spring, so we have yet to make any plans, but Europe is my pick! Who knows, maybe one day we'll be stationed there and get to travel like you! Have fun!
