Mac Users: I Need You!

I need all the pros and cons of owning a Mac. We are thinking of letting Sean take our current laptop with him on deployment and me getting a Mac. It's a bit more pricey though and I'll have to get another version of Photoshop so it's compatible with it, so I'd like to know if it's worth it before I buy it.

  2. Totally worth it! Macs always scared me, but my senior year I was taking a class that required me to use some of the professors computers in his lab a lot and they were all Macs. I fell in love with them. Once you get over the learning curve, they are much easier to use than PCs. Also, I had a Dell for college. Every year, something major happened. The hard drive crashed about a year and a half after I got it. Another year later, the screen completely went out and I had to replace that. It was just a mess. Scott surprised me with a Mac for my early graduation present. I got it in Feb. 2008 and I haven't had a single problem with it. It might sound strange, but it is seriously my baby! I really don't think you'll regret getting one at all!

  3. Macs work. That's the bottom line. They are fast, they are user-friendly, they make sense. I've never had my macbook crash on me. They are portable so I can easily take it everywhere with me. I've never had a problem with mine and I've had it since October 2008.

They are more pricey, but it's worth the investment. I will never switch back to a PC, macs are too great.

  4. I've had mine for nearly 2 years and it works as well as the day I bought it. I even managed to burn a hole in the back of the screen and it still works fine.

I will never buy another PC again after having this.

  5. i'm a mac! I love it. I have never had any problems and have been using the same iMac since Jan 2007. For photoshop I use PSE 6 (I think) and have no problems with that either. I would recommend a mac, I am sure I will be using this machine for a few more years which makes it worth the investment.

Oh and upgrading the OS was super easy too

  7. It is a big investment but it is totally worth it. I have a Macbook and have had it since Oct 06- I recommend getting the extended apple care plan. My hard-drive crashed in Dec 07 and they replaced it that evening. Now here I am going on having it 3 years and my care plan is about to expire at the end of Oct. I haven't really had any issues since. In the next few days they'll be replacing a few things on here and it'll look brand new before my care plan ends! We plan to get an iMac eventually in the next year also. They really are great!

  8. Haha! Apparently all Macs think alike! I'm a Mac and I'll never go back either!

    Con: cost
    pro: everything else!

  9. I like it...now. Go to my blog and search the word Mac and you can see all the hell (which is why my computer is named MacHell (Michelle) I've gone through.

But now, I like it. I also am running Parallels so I can run Windows and Mac at the same time (for my business applications.).

One other thing, if you do get the mac - one of my major photographer friends runs Aperture vs Photoshop. (He has both, but he told me last weekend he's opened a photoshop application 4 times this year. Aperture is an apple program.)

  10. PS - be sure to read the mac prayer that's on my blog by one of my readers.

    It's hilarious!

  11. I've had my MacBook Pro for almost a year now (in December). I was PC all the years before, and was buying a new one every 3-4 years. Virus scanning is no more...no lagging ANYWHERE, EVER...better photo quality...easier to use. I was sold right away. :)

  12. Everyone else pretty much said everything...but I'll add in that I got a MacBook Pro last Christmas and I have no complaints whatsoever! So fast, no viruses, very user friendly and fun :)

It's pricey, but I think you get what you pay for!

  13. i went mac and ill NEVER go back! Hubs was totally against them (stubborn) but now he only uses my macbook instead of the pc! ha. I have had ZERO problems with my dear computer and would recommend it to anyone, anyday. Well worth the money!

  14. I'm on my third Apple laptop. I buy the Pro series, because I prefer a lot of processor power and memory.

My 1st laptop was brand new, but the two since have been refurbished. Go to http://store.apple.com, scroll down, and in the lower left hand corner there's a blue tag that says "SAVE". Click on "Refurbished Mac". A machine could be there just because it was returned, or because it had an issue that was fixed. Either way, you can still buy the Apple Care plan for it, just as if it was brand new. Not worth the $$$ for brand new, get the model from 6 months ago for less. :)

Hope you do end up with Mac! And like others have said, now that Apple machines run with Intel processors, you can use special software to run PC software on them.

  15. I've had my mac since the end of 2006 and it's never given me a problem what so ever. The only down side I have for it is the word programs. When you first get it, it has a trial of a basic word document program but after 30 days you have to pay an obscene amount to keep it. So that's the only flaw I have with it is the lack of word program.

  16. I LOVE MY MAC!!!! I have never had a single problem with it in 3.5 years. Not. A. Single. One.

I also have an hp laptop with touchscreen. Its required for school.

    Sh!ttiest computer ever.

    I would pay $5000 for a mac touchscreen ...

The extra money is SO WORTH IT!

Can you tell how I feel?

  17. Hi, I too am a Mac. My first Mac was an iBook G4, I have had it since 2004 and gave it to my mom when I got my shiny new MacBook Pro. I got the 15" and I adore it. I think I am on this more than I sleep.

    haha

  19. I have both... bought a macbook as a replacement for my laptop but still have a PC for the desktop. I love that I have not had any issues, just turn it on and it always works and don't seem to have glitches or issues when updating software. BUT I'm still feeling like I'm dealing with a learning curve a year later. It's really taken me time to get use to settings and the file structure and those little things.

Overall I think it was a good move.

  20. I love Mac's. We just got a new one and you open it up and go. There's no installing a million things or lengthy set up.

Also, our old computer is an ibook. It's 4 years old which in computer years is over the hill. It still works really well although it's slower than the new computer. There's nothing wrong with the old one and I know my husband had a PC laptop from college and the only thing that was good for after 4 years was a paperweight.

  21. I'm not going to lie, it took me a long time to switch to my mac. But I will never look at buying anything else.. ever again!!!! I LOVE IT! Yeah, you always have to check software to see if it's compatible, but it's beyond worth it. No viruses, it's super fast.. so many pros! :)

  22. I love my mac! It's been such an easy transition! The only thing I miss is playing games, but I installed windows on it, so I can play when I want to. :)

  23. I know I'm late on this but I want to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Mac! Every single time I have to use another computer I am glad to have my Mac. I use photoshop on it easily, I use the Apple type of office suite (which I think is better than MS Office), and have had great luck with repairs when anything has happened. I highly recommend the extended Apple Care plan.

FYI- They won't ship here, nor will they ship replacement parts here. Research and find an authorized repair place around you just in case. Also, if you happen to go back to the states you might see what deals they are offering. While the carry my comp at the BX, I was able to get a free IPod Touch and printer by buying it in the states.

Let me know if I can help any more!
