Chicken Salad Convert

First things first. I was shocked by the amount of comments I got on the last post. I guess we all struggle at times with how we look. Thanks for all the suggestions, feedback and support, you ladies are the best!

I am sorry to say that Sean and I didn't get to go out and eat at the restaurant the other night, as it was closed, but we tentatively have it scheduled for tonight. I say tentatively because Sean has a lot of packing to do for his upcoming trip, so that might have to take precedence over dinner. If it does I won't be too sad though, as I have an amazing chicken salad recipe that I am eager to prepare. A friend of mine made it for me once and as a person who didn't like chicken salad, I was immediately converted. I'll try to get some pictures of it so I can share it and the recipe with you ladies.

Last night I attended my first FRG meeting here in Vicenza and it was a doozy. Mainly because it was a battalion wide FRG meeting followed by our company FRG meetings. With that many people you can bet it didn't start on time and the info was slow going, but we made it out of there in about an hour and ten minutes. I'm kind of sad though because our FRG leader is quite the sassy lady and she and her husband will be leaving soon.

I did receive an email from her today regarding our company FRG t-shirts and they are awesome! Probably the coolest FRG shirt I've ever seen.

At the FRG meeting last night I seriously felt like I was at some kind of maternity convention. There were pregnant ladies as far as the eye can see. It's just weird to see so many pregnant women, when you yourself aren't pregnant. Speaking of...I had a woman (who I don't' know that well) ask me when I was having kids. I told her Sean and I would probably wait until we got back to the States. She says, "Really?!" in a shocked tone. As if she could see my eggs dying right in front of her eyes. I'm usually not one to be rude, but if I have one more person ask me that and have that reaction I'm going to tell them it's none of their business. Even my own mother doesn't ask me when Sean and I are going to have children!

The nerve of people!

In exciting news, I found a sushi restaurant in Vicenza! It's called Zushi and it's near the train station. I have not had sushi since December, so I'm unbelievably excited to try it out.

  1. Hey! I guess we are in the same battalion. My husband's in A Co. And yes, I noticed all the preggo ladies too, myself included. It's the post deployment baby boom. I can't believe someone asked you when you are having kids. I've had several people ask me if this one was planned, and I think that's rude, too!
Anyway, I was thinking that if you'd like to meet up and have coffee sometime, just let me know. Especially since we are going to be on our own for a couple weeks.

  2. Haha. Now that I'm engaged people are already starting to ask when my fiance and I are going to have kids. When I tell them we're going to wait till we live overseas (three years from now) and come back to the states (about six years from now) they look at me like I"m crazy, but to us it just makes sense! We're in no rush.

mmmm. Sushi in Italy, that makes me happy!

  3. Oh! Last week, day three of my new job, one of the women I work with decided it was equally as appropriate to ask me when I'm planning on having kids, and if there was the "possibility any time soon" like I should just have them, because everyone else does. Nerve!

  4. I'm a chicken salad convert as well! For me, it's hard to eat anything with mayo, but I tried it once at a friends house, and never looked back!

  5. Maternity convention..ha ha.

I would like this chicken salad recipe stat. I will be eating a lot of meals on my own for the next few weeks and I LOVE a good chicken salad sandwich. Does your recipe have pineapple in it? Because that is seriously THE BEST!

    mmmm...sushi...

  6. you should def share that recipe.. i'm trying to become a chicken salad convert!!
The thing about having kids.. that's crazy!! I feel a little of your pain though, my husband is 7 of 8 kids. So we get a lot of pressure from inside the family. Stand strong! :)

  7. My husband and I don't have any kids either, and I can't stand it when people ask me about it. I feel like I have to defend myself. I don't know why people don't realize how nosy that question is.

  8. Honestly, I've never really thought much about when you guys were going to have kids. I know you've told me in the past when you two were thinking about starting to try.
I'm so glad you said you're waiting til you get back to the states. I'm sure your family is going to love being a part of the whole experience, as am I!

You have to share the chicken salad recipe, it's seriously one of my favorite foods.

  9. Wow...ummmm yeah, that is rude. You know, I have never been to an FRG meeting...or spouses anything lol. Well, I did once and I never went again ;). Big groups of military women scare me... JK!

  10. ugh! I just had a similar experience. For Easter we went to our friend's family and they all had 2-3 kids already. We have no kids and plan on waiting a few years. I was like the outcast and found myself at the other side of all kinds of unsolicited advice. It's crazy.

  11. I love the tshirts!!

I feel like the Army leads to pregnancy...or at least it seems like that! Even though we are pregnant now, we were previously the last "holdouts" of everyone that we knew. I was 25 and not knocked up yet...old spinster in Army terms!

  12. I laughed right out loud at your line about eggs and all! That is nervy, just asking right out like that.

  13. People need to back off your uterus. Especially overseas, its like you MUST have a baby. Ugh.

  16. Geez! Usually when people ask me when we're having kids, I say "we'll probably wait a few years or so" and they respond with "Yeah, it's a good idea to wait a while and just be married."

I swear, Oklahoma people must just be nicer haha.

  18. People are so nosy sometimes! When you're ready you'll be ready, I mean really...ans btw, sushi sounds AMAZING. I don't eat most kinds as a vegetarian obviously but I've had some awesome veggie kinds and I really miss it. I have to say that Mexican food and Sushi are the two things I miss most about CA.

  19. Just wanted to say that I love your labels for this post. And that there is NO such thing about talking about food too much.

    Ever! ;)

  20. cute shirt! a big yay for finding a sushi restaurant, i'm very excited for you, ha! and i can't believe some people's questions, reactions, or nerve too, craziness=)

  21. Ew, I think it's rude for people to ask things like that, especially if they don't know you personally. Why is it that just because you are married you have to have kids asap? I don't get it.

"People need to back off your uterus." I love it, too funny and so true! Whoever said it here, it might be my new answer to the baby question.

  22. I swear, I feel like everyone around me is pregnant! So many friends/coworkers/customers. It's nuts! I giggled to myself as I thought, "guess I won't be drinking the water any time soon..."

Those FRG shirts look awesome! I'm starting to get my first tastes of Army girlfriend status, and it's definitely something different. I'm grateful to have Army wives to be able to talk to about it. P leaves tomorrow for a month, and he, like Sean, has yet to pack. His room, however, looks like he has torn out every possible piece of Army gear he owns, and has it strewn about. I tripped on some of his gear and almost fell on my face going to the bathroom Sunday night!

Please share the chicken salad recipe! I'm always looking for new ways to make chicken!

  23. it is getting ridiculous how many people i know that are pregnant or just had babies. seriously. i'm beginning to think something is wrong with me, because i don't know more than 5 gals who aren't with child or already moms. i'm starting to feel the need to pop out a kid just to fit in (please honey? instead of a nose ring?). HAH.
