Happy Meal = Happy Mel

Ok..first of all I'm overwhelmed by the amount of cute baby pictures that I've seen on friends blogs today! Kick starts the baby fever in me. If you want to know who I'm referring to check out Andrea and Jenny. They have absolutley adorable children!

I just finished eating a McDonald's Happy Meal and I have to say I'm feeling pretty happy. The toy was crap though, that was the only downfall. (Yes I do eat Happy Meals and I'm 24) Anyway, today has been pretty good so far. My morning started out excellent because while weighing myself I noticed the scale had moved in the downward direction a few notches. I'm always very pleased when that happens!

Sean and I were talking this morning about us going to Houston this weekend with some friends of ours to see the Astros/Red Sox game. He told me he told his friend we should leave early so we can go do something I enjoy like a museum. My heart fluttered a bit when he told me that. Sometimes he really suprises me with just how much he thinks about my needs too. It gave me that giddy, school-girl feeling! I think instead of a museum I want to go to this massive flea market that they have close to Houston. It's 105 acres of vendors/stalls and I can't think of anything I'd rather do then go bargain shopping. It's like one huge garage sale! I'm already thinking of all the cool things I might find.

Speaking of Sean and his sweetness, I came home from work yesterday to find he had cleaned the kitchen, unloaded and then loaded back the dishwasher and had started dinner. Grilled fish, with veggies and rice. We'd had a small disagreement the other day about him helping out more and so I was glad that our conversation had done some good. I'll be the first to admit that marriage can sometimes be a bit of work, but it's always worth it to me.

Only 9 days until our one year anniversary! Pretty good, considering a lot of people didn't think we would make it this far.

Reflections

I have a online ticker for Sean and I's anniversary on my computer and today it reads 1 month and six days. (This would be for our Justice of the Peace wedding, not our ceremony in case anyone is confused) I look back over this past year and marvel at where I was then and where I am now.

This time last year, Sean and I were dating (as best as you can 9 hours apart)talking on the phone all the time, constantly texting each other and talking from time-to-time about marriage. I knew at this point last year that I was going to marry him, although I didn't know that it would be quite so soon. I remember being a little bit scared about how much my life would change, but also being very excited about all the new opportunities that would come with it as well. All I knew at that time was that I loved this man and it didn't matter where he was going, I was going too.

Now, almost a year later I look at the good times and rough times we've had. I am an Army wife, something that I never planned on being as I was growing up. I was never one of those girls that had a thing for those "men in uniform" and I never had a favorite branch of the military. I had some friends like that, but I was never one of those girls. I didn't know anything about the Army before I married Sean. I couldn't tell you what someone's rank was just by looking at their uniform, what unit they were in and forget all those acronyms that come with being in the military lifestyle. I was a newbie and I still am. I still have to ask Sean questions everyday about things he tells me or things I hear.

I love this life. I don't love the deployments that inevitably will come, I don't love the long hours or the whole "hurry up and wait" menality, but I love our life. I love coming home and seeing Sean in his ACU's, looking so handsome and in charge. I enjoy the people that I meet and the opportunities that this lifestyle will provide with me being an Army wife.

I think about this past year and the things Sean and I have gone through, being apart for the first five months of our marriage and how that is going to prepare me for future separations. I think of us as a strong couple, even though we are still growing and learning how to be married. To me that's not something you can learn or even do in just a few months time.

My husband may irritate me and frustrate me at times and sometimes I think I hate the Army and some of the things that they do, but I would never want to be anywhere than where I am right now, with any other man in the world.

A disagreement

I'm having a bad day today. I just need to get my frustrations out. I'm stressed out right now. Christmas, wedding and moving all in one month will do that to you. I still have bills to pay and preparations to make.

To top all of that off I really haven't gotten to talk to Sean much this week. I've missed him a lot and just been sad about being apart, even though I know it's only about 12 days until I see him again.

Today he and I are having a disagreement about a situation that is hurtful to me. He won't compromise on this situation though, he keeps telling me to trust him, trust him. It's not an issue of trust with me. Obviously I trust him since we've been living 9 hours apart for the last 5 months since we've been married. I want him to stop this particular situation that is hurting me immediately! The fact that he won't hurts me a lot. More than I've ever been hurt by another person.

I think that's why marriage is sometimes so scary to me. Because there are so many wonderful moments that you share with your spouse, but who can hurt you more than they can? No one can. I compromise a lot in my marriage, which I know is what married couples do. In this situation though I'm not. There is simply NO compromise in this particular instance. It's either one way or another and if Sean doesn't do that, then I don't know what is going to happen to us.

Obviously divorce is not an option for me, I married this person for better or for worse, I'm not giving up on him or us. I just wish sometimes he would recognize how selfish he can be and try to work on that. I know I have things to work on myself and I am trying to do my best. I have setbacks every once in awhile and I know I am not perfect. I still have a lot of growing up to do, but so does he and sometimes I feel like I'm tired of giving in.
