A Series of Unfortunate Events

Last night and this morning were seriously like a bad comedy, which involved me getting into a variety of mishaps.

Mishap #1: Ordered a new lens cap for my camera since I lost mine in Houston. I really wanted to have it before we went to New Orleans so I didn't have to worry about my lens getting scratched. I got the lens cap in the mail last night....it doesn't fit! Now I feel like an idiot and my camera is still sans lens cap. So...I ordered the right one last night, but there's no way it's going to be in before Saturday morning, so I'm going to have to rig up some ghetto looking dust cloth contraption on the front of my camera.

Mishap#2: I kind of rolled my ankle the other day at work when I was leaning on the back of my heel at the copy machine. It didn't hurt it, but it scared me. This morning after Sean had gotten up to go to PT, I wanted to turn our fan down, as it was cold in our room. I get up to stumble over to the fan and in the process catch my ankle on the metal frame that is sticking out from under our bed. I seriously thought I had broken something at that point, but thank god I didn't. Now I just have a very cut-up and bruised foot/ankle. Then I drop a shampoo bottle on that foot in the shower!

Mishap#3: Receive nasty paper cut from Sean's papers that he had in the car.

It is not my day.

Ok...this is totally random, but does anyone remember a Saturday Night Live skit called Country Roses? It was this commercial spoof of classic country singers and featured Jennifer Aniston, Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler.

Basically they did these crazy songs, but also Jennifer Aniston and Maya Rudolph were getting into it because Maya was seeing Jennifer's husband. I bring this up because I thought the songs they were singing were hilarious and the other day I randomly heard this song on Pandora that was called "Fist City" by Loretta Lynn. This song is classic and reminds me so much of that SNL spoof. I even made it my MySpace song today because it's just that hilarious to me. If you haven't heard it you should preview it on ITunes or something.

Now it's time for my favorite part of Friday!

1. What's your must-have Thanksgiving food item?
2. What do you love about the most about fall/winter?
3. Do you decorate for the holidays? If so where do you get the majority of your decorations?
4. Do you have an decorations that are extra special to you?
5. Any alternative Thanksgiving plans besides dinner?

My Answers:

1. Potato Casserole is mine. It's addictive and melt in your mouth good. How can you go wrong with that?
2. I like the crispness in the air, the smokey smell of fireplaces burning and hot drinks from Starbucks.
3. I go all out in decorating for Christmas and I get those decorations mostly at Hobby Lobby. (Of course)
4. My first Christmas ornament is the most special to me. If anything happened to it I'd probably cry.
5. Sean and I want to go to Vicksburg that weekend, but I don't know if that will happen or not. My only other plan that weekend is to go watch Four Christmases.

Can't wait to hear your answers!

Hair Update and Friday Fun Questions

First of all, Happy Halloween!

I have the feeling this might be a long post, so bear with me folks.

So...I went and got my hair done yesterday. Several things happened with that.

1. I've never been to this lady before, normally I wait and just go back to my fave stylist in Oklahoma, but my hair was a fright so I needed something done ASAP.

2. I showed the lady what I wanted, although I couldn't print off that Gisele picture from yesterday's blog in color, so I had to substitute with magazines they had at the salon.

3. My hair was green, green! Not from anything she did, but the chemicals in the water on-post are so hard that they turn my blonde hair green. Picture me swimming everyday for the last four months and that's what my hair looked like. Somehow my shampoo wasn't helping with that.

4. My hair turned out good and it is darker, but it is not the color of lovely Gisele's hair. It is more my natural, darker blonde that my roots are these days. I'm not saying it doesn't look good, but it's not a drastic change. In fact, Sean told me it doesn't look any different, but I assure you it does.

So, I'll still post pics, but it looks like I won't get my Gisele hair until I go back to Oklahoma.

I think I might be babysitting for a couple of hours on Saturday. I'm pumped because that means another opportunity for baby pictures! Sean is working some of Saturday anyway, so it's not like I'm going to be up to a whole lot.

Ok, so as some of you know I'm part of a forum for Army Wives. We have a debate board on there and currently some of us are debating the to vaccinate/not vaccinate issue. I personally am for vaccinating, but that's a whole other blog that I'll have to do at a later time. What frustrates me about this debate though is that the women that are for not vaccinating are spreading myths/rumors about various vaccinations, without backing it up with any credible source. That is my biggest pet peeve. Please DO NOT state something as fact, when in fact it is your opinion. I've proven them wrong several times with various sources I've found, mainly from the CDC. I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I cannot stand when people don't back up what they are saying. Guess it's the reference librarian in me.

This week, we put out an ad for someone to replace me. You would not believe the amount of resumes we've gotten in! Our mailbox everyday is brimming with them. I have to admit that I do look through a few of the resumes if something catches my eye. Well today, there were two things.

1. One girl sent in a cover letter written on notebook paper. I wanted to call her and tell her to never do that again.

2. Another girl listed on her resume some extracurricular activities. They happened to include, sitting on her back porch, sipping coffee and watching the sunset. WTH? Why would you include that on a resume? I seriously sat there and laughed for about two minutes.

Obviously some people need some serious resume help!

Now for the fun part of the post. Friday Fun Questions- Spooky Style!

1. What was your favorite Halloween costume growing up?

2. Name three kinds of candy you always wanted to see in your trick-or-treat bag.

3. If you were a Jack O'Lantern, what would your face look like?

My Answers:

1. I think my favorite costume was the year I was a ballerina. My mom made me a purple tu-tu. I had the cutest leotard and slippers to go with it.

2. Reeses, Mr. GoodBar and regular Hershey's bars. So good!

3.

Friday Fun Questions Volume 6 and Survivor

Is anyone watching Survivor this season? Sean and I watched it last night and I think I'm already hooked. I already have my favorites (Marcus) and those that I cannot stand (Jillian, Charlie) thank goodness Jillian was already voted off. Her accent and know it all attitude were making me crazy! Where they are at is beautiful though. I really want to go to Africa sometime in the near future. I can't find anyone who wants to go with me though. Where's everyones sense of adventure? Huh?

Today is Boomer's (our Min-Pin) first birthday. Yes, I'm one of those people who celebrate their pets birthdays. Sean had to take him to the groomer today to get his nails clipped, but I told Boomer I'd make it up to him by getting him a Happy Meal. No, I'm not going to let him eat the ENTIRE Happy Meal.

Time for some Friday Fun Questions!

1. Three websites you frequent the most?
2. What's one thing you really want for Christmas?
3. Any shows this season you are already addicted to?
4. Are there any foods that you were hesitant about trying, but then did and loved them?
5.What room in your house is your favorite and why?

My answers:
1. Blogger.com, armywivesforums.com and hotmail.com
2. I really want a laptop for Christmas, but I know I'm not going to get it, so the second thing I really want is a Chi straightener.
3. I already mentioned Survivor, but I'm also liking Dancing With the Stars
4. My first cruise I was hesitant about escargot, but I tried them and love them! I try to order them every time I can. Delicious!
5. I think my favorite room in our house is the bedroom. Mainly because that's where Sean and I relax the most and just have fun watching TV together.

I'd love to hear your answers!

My list of things to do this weekend:
1. Take pictures of surrounding area and funny signs around town
2. Go to Hallmark and buy a new Yankee candle. I really want that chocolate cupcake one!
3. Cheer on my Oklahoma State Cowboys. I'm hoping for a 4-0 start.
4. Buy a new nose stud. I'm tired of the pink one I have in.
5. Make something tasty this weekend. I'd like to make some kind of apple tart. Does anyone have a good recipe?

So what are your weekend plans?

Friday Fun Questions, Volume 5

It's that time of the week! Time for Friday Fun Questions. I actually had a tough time coming up with questions today and it almost slipped my mind that today was the day. Guess all this hurricane business had my mind elsewhere!

1. In what style would your dream home be? What are some must-haves you would want to be in it?

2. An author's work you consider to be a must read?

3. What's a TV show that's no longer on that you miss watching?

4. If someone made a movie of your life, who would you want to play you?

5. What's one invention you can't imagine living without?

My answers:

1. I'd love to have a Greek Revival home ( you know a plantation home?) I can just imagine myself sipping mint juleps on the porch! I'd want it to have a huge wraparound porch and high ceilings with a magnificent staircase and a cozy living room with a fireplace. Oh and a big kitchen too!

2. I think Doris Kearnes Goodwin is phenomenal. She really captures the lives of the people she writes up and makes them as if you know the intricate details of their lives.

3. I miss all the old shows like Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, Let's Make a Deal and those sorts of shows. TV Land used to play some of them, but now are playing the likes of Third Rock From the Sun and Just Shoot Me, not classic TV in my opinion.

4. I'd want Reese Witherspoon to play me. She's funny, intelligent and a good actress. I think she'd play me in a believable way.

5. I'm sure a lot of people might say this, but I cannot imagine not having the Internet and not having the ability to find anything within just a few seconds at my fingertips. I wouldn't have met all you fabulous blogger people either without the Internet!

Let's hear those answers!

Friday Fun Questions, Volume 4

Well, things around here are getting pretty crazy. Yesterday on-post there were long lines at the gas pumps and after going to Wal-Mart last night with my friend Lauren I realized people around here are pretty much already in panic mode.

I just got some canned items, a few candles and chips, granola bars, etc.

There were hardly any batteries left, no flashlights, no lanterns and no bottled water to be found. I've never seen anything like this in my life!

As of today this is where they are predicting the storm to go:

If it follows that path then we are in for a rough week next week.

Now down to the fun part of the day. Fun Friday Questions!

1. Most unusual job you have had?

2. Describe yourself in three words

3. What's your signature scent?

4. What's a fun family tradition you have?

5. Anything special your hometown is known for?

My answers:

1. I picked grapes for a vineyard one summer. It was hot, tiring work, but it was fun and taste-testing the different kinds of grapes was really fun.

2. Intelligent, bubbly, funny

3. I love to wear Armani Code, I think it's my favorite and I guess that would make it my signature scent.

4. One tradition I love is on Christmas Eve we make all kinds of snacks at my parents home. Bacon wrapped water chestnuts, Mexican pinwheels, Carmel Bars, boiled shrimp, sauteed mushrooms and eat them while we watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. We've done this for a really long time and I love it!

5. My hometown of Bartlesville, OK is where Phillips 66 was headquartered for a long time. We also have the only skyscraper designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It's called Price Tower.

I can't wait to hear your answers and if anyone wants to suggest questions for Friday Fun Questions then just email them to me.

Friday Fun Questions, Volume 3

So before we get to the questions I have to share a small frustration. The second part of the month is when we pay most of our bills, I looked at our bank account today and noticed after paying most of the bills we are getting down to small digits in our bank account. This wouldn't be such a problem if there weren't a couple of people that owed us money. Sean loaned two of his friends some money for a grand total of $110. Granted, I appreciate the fact he's a generous guy, but we aren't in any sort of position to loan people that much money, especially since it's been several weeks and we have yet to be paid back. I finally told him today that when he gets back from Mississippi, that he HAD to collect the money. No ifs, ands or buts. Anyone else have any issues with their SO's doing that?

Ok, but down to the fun part of the day. Friday fun questions! I'm eager to read your responses.

1. What is your earliest memory?

2. What is your ancestry?

3. Who has been the biggest influence in your life?

4. Favorite meal/dish to cook/bake?

5. If you could go back to a particular period in history what would it be and why?

My answers:

1. One of my earliest memories would be of a huge, scary goat that our neighbors had. It would come into our pasture and chase our cows and I remember being terrified of it. This was no normal goat either, I'm serious when I say it was the size of a cow.

2. I'm German, Native American and Norweigan. My great-great grandma came to America from Norway when she was 6.

3. Biggest influence in my life would be my mom. I would not be where I am today if it hadn't been for her. She's a very honorable woman I hope to be the kind of mom someday that she was to me.

4. My favorite dish to make is potato casserole. It's a family favorite. My mom makes it for holidays and Sean loves to eat it too and often requests I make it. It's easy and delicious.

5. If I could go back in time I think it would be neat to go back to the 1800's. Especially when people were moving across the nation on the Oregon Trail. I would have loved to have seen the huge prairies with nothing but the sky and the grass.
