I've noticed I have some new readers and since I haven't done a post strictly about myself in awhile, I thought it was time for one.
1. I have weird fears. I'm so afraid of floods or driving over a bridge that is close to the water. I'm so afraid of getting trapped in a car in water. I also have this irrational fear of a brain aneurysm (which didn't help my fear when I saw it on Dr. OZ this morning) I also have this terrible fear that I'm going to slip on stairs and knock my teeth out.
2. Many, many times I think of someone or something or have a dream about them and without fail I'll hear from that person or see them (even if I haven't heard from them or seen them in years) or if it's something like a song or TV show, I'll see something about it. I'm talking obscure things too. It's kind of freaky.
3. I loathe the songs American Pie and Bette Davis Eyes. When they come on the radio I HAVE to switch stations.
4. I'm a college graduate who is unemployed and although there are days where I really enjoy not having a job, there are also times when I feel like I'm kind of a bum for not working. Especially since we have no kids and I'm not working on school. However, I refuse to work a job like retail just so I can say I work. Just one downside of living overseas.
5. I get extremely creeped out if people I don't know touch me. As in, people I've never talked to, this excludes bloggers or FB friends. There's a male clerk at the PX who touched my hand while I was waiting in line and it freaked me out. I have a bubble of space, please observe it.
6.If you haven't already noticed I'm obsessed with photography and travel and my dream job would involve both. You might not know that I'm also obsessed with languages. I have a ton of books on languages that I've picked up, yet I'm not fluent in anything but English. I really, really wish I was one of those people that picked up languages easily.
7. I love board games. Scattergories, Apples to Apples, Catch Phrase, Cranium, Scrabble. You name it, I probably like to play it.
8. I am not a fan of going to the dentist. I would much, much rather go to any combination of doctors if it meant not going to the dentist. The sound of the drill gives me chills. The only time I've enjoyed a dentist visit is when I left with a prescription of Percocet.
9. If your kid is a picky eater, have faith! I too was a picky eater as a child and these days you'd never know it. I wouldn't eat most meat when I was younger. I didn't even start liking steak until I was 20. Now I'll eat almost anything, minus organs of any type. That still kind of skeeves me out.
10. I really want an iPhone when we get back to the States, but I'm not sure I should get one. I already have an Internet addiction as it is and I'm pretty sure an iPhone would only make it worse!
I am also a former picky eater. Now I'll pretty try anything! I love food!
ReplyDeleteI also have a fear of knocking my teeth out on stairs. We have these terrifying concrete/metal ones at work and I think of that EVERY time I use them! lol
ReplyDeleteAlso, I was waiting in line at Aeropostale a few weeks ago and this random guy in line touched my hair. My first thought....serial killer!!! Probably not, but I was so freaked out I left the store.
#4 is exactly like me, except we still live in the States. I don't want a crap job just to say I have a job.
ReplyDeleteI also love board games, and I still kinda am a picky eater. Not nearly as bad as when I was a kid though.
*shudder* under water in a car is one of my biggies! Or even the thought of going too deep scuba diving.
ReplyDeleteApples to Apples is soooo much fun and electronic catch phrase is a fav of our when we all go camping.
I too am a former picky eater, but I have definitely expanded my horizons in recent years. And as for the bubble zone - I'm pregnant right now and people feel the need to touch my stomach - it COMPLETELY creeps me out. In regards to the iPhone - it will make your internet obsession/addiction much worse, I have one and I have 6gb data plan on my phone (which I really don't need but it was only $5 extra) and I'm always online now.
ReplyDeleteFormer picky eater here! I have to laugh at my psycho-mom friends who just *can't* handle the fact that their kids refuse to eat something or other, and think there's something mentally or morally wrong with them. I have to laugh, or else I'd take it personally.
ReplyDeleteiPhones are amaaaaaaaaaazing.
ReplyDeleteI wish we lived closer together. We would so get along. Until I watched Dr.Oz this morning, I had no fear of brain aneurysms, but now I'm terrified.
ReplyDeleteI too love to travel and take photographs. Board games are AWESOME. I'm an unemployed college grad (though I do homeschool Indy, and THAT'S a job), I don't like strangers touching me (back off already!), I dislike the dentist and I WANT and iPhone. My mom just got one. What is the world coming to?
I LOVE board games too! Cranium and Scene It are my two favorites. And believe it or not, I am a big fan of dominoes too.
ReplyDeleteI have a major fear that I'm going to choke on food while I'm driving... so unless I'm with my husband or a friend, I avoid eating in the car. Random, I know :)
ReplyDeleteI hear you about the dentist. I haven't been in almost three years. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I totally get where you're coming from with having a college degree and having to settle for less or not wanting to settle for less. I will be earning my M.Sc. in a few months and there is nothing in my field where we live. For most other jobs, I'm overqualified. That's why I decided to join the Army myself. I'm super excited!
I have a totally bizarre fear of the door on the oven snapping shut while my arms are in there grabbing food. Random, right?
ReplyDeleteTotally get an iPhone. They are amazing. Are yall coming back CONUS after your time in Italy??
*raises my hand as the mom of a picky eater*
ReplyDeleteThank you for the hope!
I love your details! I have those strange fears as well.
ReplyDeleteI don't exactly have an iPhone, just the next best thing - a Droid, and at first I wasn't sure how it was going to work out but I absolutely love it, especially with being new to the state of Washington and Fort Lewis and not knowing where anything is - I survive because of my Droid and it's amazing internet and maps!

ReplyDeletethis is so funny because I find myself doing same things and I have similar fears! This post made me feel normal again! Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteMira
Jericho was singing "Pop Goes the Weasel" to the ghost in his bedroom last night.
ReplyDeleteMade me think of you.
I was such the picky eater too. My husband says I still am but I think I have come a long way. I use to hate chicken, pizza, any kind of sauce and a whole bunch of other normal foods. My oldest is a lot like I was so I can relate to his food hate...lol
ReplyDeleteI love love love board games. I also can't stand it when people I don't know touch me or get really close to my body. It freaks me out!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy dad was always on me to get a droid. And I kept saying no, not because I didn't want one, but because I knew I'd be addicted. About a year ago I gave in, and I'm most definitely addicted now! At least I saw it coming!
ReplyDeleteGirlfriend, I'm terrified of the dentist. I am going for the first time in five years this month. Needless to say, I'll be popping some valium that day.
ReplyDeleteI rediscovered your blog!! The trip that you are taking right now sounds amazing!!
