My question of the day stems from this recent article
Ok, let me just say that generally I have no issue with people who have a lot of children, it's their choice and as long as they can support their children and provide for them, then I don't have an issue.
I do however have an issue with the Duggars. After this last child being born early, with several health problems and being in the hospital for six months, I cannot comprehend trying to have another child.
When you put children at risk for complications, birth defects or lasting health problems than I have an issue with you and you continuing to try to have children. I think it's selfish and irresponsible.
Your thoughts?
I agree completely!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. They are good people, support their own family without government help, etc., but it does come to a point where a womans age effects the pregnancy and the fetus.. that's when I draw the line. So basically like I said.. I agree!

Once again, we are in agreement. If they continue, in my opinion, they will be taking it too far.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. They are compromising the health of the mother and baby. It will be interesting to see what happens to the children later on in life and how they feel about their parent's decisions.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree with you, 100%. And don't even think about getting Scott started on this subject. He saw that same magazine cover and told me exactly how he felt about it! :)
ReplyDeleteWell said my friend; I think its a selfish issue as well with this family.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. Plus the fact that she is putting her own health at risk each time. She needs to focus on the clan she already has & close down the factory, already!
ReplyDeleteIf they really feel they have the funds/time/need/etc. for more children, why not adopt?!
Count me in agreement. I'm glad you can afford it, but why not share your wealth with your current kids and your grandkids? And if you truly feel the need for more, then adopt!
ReplyDeleteI hate that TLC seems to be encouraging this kind of thing by putting them on tv.
I agree with you, it is time for them to stop!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree!! When it starts to cross the line of safety for the mother and babies, it's WAY too much.
ReplyDeleteI agree as well. I know this may sound controversial, but I think it's sort of irresponsible of them. I have only seen a handful of episodes of this show, but it always seems that the older kids are caring for the younger ones. I have a high-schooler who helps her 2nd-grade sister now and then, but she isn't her primary caregiver. I personally feel like they "use" the older kids to do the work with the younger ones. That is unfair to the older ones, in my opinion at least. Why not just be content with 19 (or however many they have now?)
ReplyDeleteIf they really do want more children there are so many that need good homes without compromising another baby's health or the mother's health for that matter. It is really to the point where the parents aren't even raising the kids anymore. How could they? The older siblings seem to be raising the younger ones.
ReplyDeleteI agree, on one condition though. I know her problems stemmed from preclampsia. I honestly don't know if age has anything to do with it. My understanding is physical health and what you eat plays a big roll, since women my age and younger get it. So assuming her condition didn't result from her age I don't see much of an issue. At the same time, however, she has a REALLY high maintenance little girl with compounding health problems for the foreseeable future... I think her time should still be dedicated to that little one since babies are so high maintenance without any issues. And yeah, I watch this show a lot not. I'm a loser.
ReplyDeleteUgh I totally agree! I feel so bad for her older children because I feel like they don't get to just be young, they have to be "mini" mommies.
ReplyDeleteI don't completely agree. Would you think the same way if that was her first child? I wouldn't choose that life, but its none of my business.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I can understand your position.
I think after 19 kids it's time for them to STOP
ReplyDeleteHow can anyone with that many kids stay sane??
ReplyDeleteAnything can happen health wise wether it is the first or 20th child. If they can afford them, love them and take care of them I see no issues. I am the eldest of 9, sure I had to help out a lot but in all honesty I would not have changed any but of it.

I know several "superlarge" families like the Duggars and they have all grown to be healthy, productive members of society - doctors, teachers, journalists, small business-owners, etc. - so I don't worry at all about their welfare. I know lots of people who had all those same health complications with their first baby - including my parents!
ReplyDeleteHere's another article about the Duggars you might find interesting - http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/crichards/2010/09/05/tlcs-19-kids-and-counting-for-a-taste-of-real-freedom-check-out-the-19-duggar-kids/
I agree. It is time to stop and focus on the children they do have.
ReplyDeleteRelated trivia: Did you know that there is a new family on post with 14 children? Yep, a family of 16. . . here. I haven't seen them out and about, only met a couple of the high school ones. Nice kids.
ReplyDeleteI think to each his own, and I do watch their show because I'm absolutely fascinated by them. I simply can't believe that she has had that many children naturally.
ReplyDeleteShe said something at the end of the last show about having more children - if she had stopped after her twins, she wouldn't have had another daughter. And she loves that daughter. If she had stopped, then she never would have met that other child. So that's her point about having more kids now. If it's a gift from God, who are we to say she shouldn't?
