Since I'm a planner and I enjoy thinking ahead, I've been looking at dresses for our upcoming battalion ball. I have no idea when it will be. My guess is early/late spring. I wanted to get a jumpstart on looking though instead of waiting until the last minute.
Ideally I want something that's slightly Grecian looking, sort of a toga type dress. Similiar to this:
or this:
I really like the first one, but it only comes in white. I'm not sure how appropriate white dresses are at a battalion ball. Your thoughts? Don't be afraid to say what you really think.
I also love this, but it's a bit pricey and maybe a tad too dramatic.
At the Marine Corps Balls there are always women wearing white. I think you'd be fine wearing the first dress!
ReplyDeleteI don't know about "proper" etiquette, but I bought this dress for my upcoming civil ceremony, and I sure as heck plan on wearing it to one or more balls in the future! It's kinda-sorta Grecian.

For me, proper fit and a certain "class" factor count for much more than color does. I love the dresses you've picked out so far!
I love them all! I really like the turquoise one the best though!
ReplyDeleteThis is just personal preference, but I'm not a fan of white dresses on women unless it's their wedding dress. :)
I love dress number 2 but in something like navy would be to die for.
ReplyDeleteLove the white one! The Grecian look is my favorite. I can't wait for the Old Guard Ball next year!!
ReplyDeleteI love the first one! I have no clue if white is appropriate for your event but that dress is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHey Melissa, the ball is January! I love the style you are going for!
ReplyDeleteI'm another one that goes with something that fits and flatters you (and is not trashy revealing) will be appropriate. A white dress at a winter ball is totally ok. I agree that the second dress in navy would be stunning.
ReplyDeleteThis is the dress I got for last year's ball. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_7nUmbs_RHgs/Sq59VmSh6QI/AAAAAAAABA8/qXvGs5OPg9c/s1600-h/dress+front.jpg and I will probably wear it again this year. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteIt's made by Adrianna Papell, and here's a new one of hers this year that's similar. http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=487888&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results
Hope that helps!
I LOVE the white dress....very Kim Kardashian at the Emmys :) I would add a jeweled brooch to the shoulder strap area though.
ReplyDeleteI love number 2. It looks more fitted and would be very flattering. I too, think it would be fabulous in different colors.
ReplyDeleteI really like #2. I think the reason I lean towards that over #1 is that it looks like it might end up being super baggy under the boobs. I know that style looks awful on me, so I think I've just made myself averse to it. [This obviously, is not commentary as to how I think it would look on you!]
ReplyDeleteI love the white one! It looks so classy and Hollywood. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the first two but I think the 3rd one is more like a red carpet dress for sure. If you don't want the first one in white maybe you can get it dyed?
ReplyDeleteI love the last two!! You would look great in either one! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the third dress!! Is it bad to wear a short dress to one of those balls? I wore a short dress to my first Officer's ball and thought I was dressed appropriate. I was planning on wearing a short one again, but your post has be a little worried.
ReplyDeleteMy vote is for the second one--the teal. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the white dress. I don't think there's anything against wearing white...Also, not sure how it is in England, but in Germany we can take a picture to the local alterations shop and they can typically make what you want. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteI love that blue dress. Gorgeous!
