As Seen At The Gym

I've honestly been disappointed since moving here in that I believe our last duty station had more interesting characters at the gym then where we are now. Today however, I was treated to a few interesting sights and one situation that really ticked me off.

Interesting person #1

The guy was wearing sunglasses. Inside. To lift weights.

Why? I have no idea. The only situation I would think one would wear sunglasses for an hour inside a gym would be because you've recently had laser surgery or your eyes are dilated. I'm thinking that wasn't the case.

Interesting person #2

Ok..let me preface this by saying I lift weights. I love weights more than cardio. I like being toned and having muscles. I do NOT however want to look like this.

That's what the lady at the gym looked like today, except her biceps looked a little more cut. I get that there are different strokes for different folks and I guess that's how she wants to look. I just don't ever want to look like that.

Incident that Ticked me off:

Most people who do weights regularly know there are certain rules. You don't hog the dumbbells and/or weight machines, you re-rack your weights and you don't walk between a person lifting weights and the mirror they are facing.

Well.. a lady today did two of the three things. I was on a weight bench working on arms and using 10 and 15 lb dumbbells for various exercises. I re-rack whatever weights I'm not using and then rotate them out when I need them. I'm using 15 lb weights today and a lady comes and grabs the 10. I put up the 15lb weights and grab a 20 lb weight for some lifts. The lady comes back over, picks up the 15lb weights and walks back over to where she is. So now she has the 10lb and 15lb. I look over at her, wait a few minutes and she NEVER brings them back. Finally I just went across the gym and got the weights I needed. Normally I'd say something, but I knew today would be a bad day for me to say what I really thought so I kept it to myself. The icing on the cake was that she repeatedly walked in front of me while I'm facing the mirror trying to look at my form. Um...you seriously can't walk behind me? It's that much of a struggle for you?

Moral of the story? Tread lightly around me at the gym. :)

Oh..and for all those that like my new blog layout, thank you! I'm not talented enough to do it myself so I asked Becca over at Lovely Yellow Ribbons to do it for me. Isn't she just the most creative person ever? I'm in love with my new layout!

  4. Oh man. That reminds me (the whole walking in front of you thing) is that I work at Kohl's Dept. Store, and well... I work the fitting rooms, you know, putting all the crap away that people try on... And well, there I am standing at the fitting room bar, where people SHOULD set the clothes that they have already tried on... any way, the walkway that I am standing in is about 2ft wide, and people seriously come up to me, look at me funny, and say something like "EXCUSE ME!"... and there I am having to get out of the way because I am putting away the clothes that they are trying on! LOL!! I get so heated every time someone does this to me because there aren't like A MILLION OTHER ways to get into the fitting room... *sigh* lol.

Other than that, Your layout, super cute. I really love the little yellow ribbon in the upper left corner!

  5. Love the new look!

My gym pet peeve number one? Burly men who lift really really heavy weights ten times, but then drop them on the floor after the last rep. You already lifted them ten times, you can put them down quietly without risking structural damage to the floor!

  6. Oooh, nice new layout! It loads a little faster now for me too and is easier to read. Love it!

Yeah, our gym is a little boring, other than a few creepy/annoying folks. No true bizzaros, but I suppose we should be grateful. Hey, maybe some new people will move in this summer for blog material!

  7. I love the new layout! :)

And yeah, we had a guy at our old gym who wore sunglasses...at night! Not just inside, but after 9:00 p.m.! Not that he ever really "worked out". He was really bulked up, but mostly all I ever saw him do is walk around anf flirt. Stupid.

  8. Was the guy wearing sunglasses in the military? Sometimes they wear sunglasses because it makes them more comfortable when they are in a crowd. There are lots of reasons for it. It could be something really small or he could be struggling with PTSD. The sunglasses seem to make them feel "safe." I was at the Comedy Club a few weeks ago and this guy was wearing sunglasses even though all of the lights were turned off. He had the "military" air about him. I didn't stare because we don't know his reasoning for wearing them. So, maybe the guy was military. Or, just a weirdo who thinks he looks cool wearing sunglasses in doors. haha

  10. I LOVE the new look, my favorite part is the yellow ribbon pinned up on the left :) love it!!!

...I don't know the "gym rules" but I'm pretty sure both of the things she did were common sense...unfortunately she probably only cares about herself and has no sense of what's happening around her!

  11. Ha! I think I've also seen the exact lady you mention. . . scary. Most gym patrons are well-behaved, in my estimation (except for the teens!), but I've seen some interesting spandex on men from time to time. very, very interesting.
    Have a great weekend!

  12. The aqua/turquoise color is beautiful!! Love it!!

There used to be a guy who went to our gym who would yell at himself...not talk, but yell. "You got this!" "Suck it up!", etc. Quite the character. It startled me in the beginning, but then I found it hard not to laugh my rear off after seeing him there a few times doing the same thing.

  14. we have a couple of weirdos at the gym up here. My personal favorite is the chick who does these random arm movements while walking on the treadmill. I'm assuming that she's trying to get a bit of an arm workout in, but it just looks like she's jazzercizing on the treadmill and it always makes me laugh!
