News Travels Fast

So yesterday I got my first taste of how fast gossip/bad news spreads in the military. You think military wives are bad? The men are even worse.

There was an incident the other night at work, in which a joking comment was made about me and although it might have been a tad inappropriate, I knew for myself it was a joke, as I joke around with the person who made it. One of Sean's friends happened to hear it as well and almost started a fight about the comment. Seriously, I'm not kidding about the fight.

Fast forward to the next morning and Sean is livid when he gets home from P/T because his whole company knows this story. Now..before you ask me why I didn't tell him first, it's because when I got home that night he was already asleep and the next morning he didn't wake me up before he went to P/T.

Although it was a minor incident, it's not been blown way out of proportion. Who is on the bad end of that deal? Me. Even though I feel that Sean's "friend" should have told him about the incident privately, without letting the entire company know first.

It's honestly on days like that, that I hate the Army. I finally told Sean last night that if people want to talk about me or make judgements on me without knowing me, then that's fine. People who know the real me know that I'm an upstanding woman who has my priorities in order and I'm not going to spend the next 3 years worrying about what people have to say about me. If I did, then I'd go crazy.

Other than that the week has been good. As I mentioned we had the bigwigs from the USO come in yesterday and last night I went to dinner with them, as well as some of the installation leaders. I had a great time, some delish four cheese gnocchi and possibly 3 shots of Limoncello. You didn't hear that from me though.

I'm so ready for the weekend to be here!

  1. Ugghh.. let them talk! You're right. You really can't live your life worrying about what other people are thinking. How exhausting! All that matters is that the people closest to you know what kind of a person you are. And all of us bloggers of course.. and clearly we all think you're amazing!

  4. Let them be petty and stupid - just rest in knowing that you're above that. You know what's true and the people who really know you do, too. Who cares about the rest? We all know you're fabulous.

  5. Yeppers, and it won't ever change so you might as well get thick skin. I've seen/heard the most ridiculous things and how they just grow bigger with each telling.

At least you're in Italy!!!!!! We will hopefully be there soon....well our next assignment anyway!

  7. Just ignore the asses. I don't know why some people always need to try and drag other people down.

  14. I can be funny how much guys actually do gossip. Especially considering it is such a stereotyped girl behavior.

  15. Men gossip just as much as women, and the problem is they usually take it much more seriously. Don't let it get to ya. That'll just make it worse.

  18. Gaw, that is so ridiculous! I can't stand gossip, and you're right, that guy should have approached Sean when he was alone, not in front of everyone else!

  19. Yeah, military guys are usually ten times worse than the wives on post are about gossip. But I think what you told your husband is great...they don't know you, and you know that you didn't do anything wrong so let them be petty. =)

P.S. I just found your blog and LOVE IT. Check out mine.

  20. You trouble maker you!

Men are so gallant to a fault sometimes.

Being all "how dare you say something to my friends wife"!

I mean, I appreciate that they are trying to be nice, but it gets old fast.

  21. You stand your ground girl!
Gossip is everywhere and it's hardly ever true. I always say as long as you know the truth about yourself, it doesn't really matter what others are saying.
