Like A Heat Wave

Spring is alive and kicking here in Italy and in all honesty I have mixed feelings about it.

Don't get me wrong, I love spring, but in Italy it's very common to NOT have air-conditioning. We asked for it to be put in our apartment, but it has yet to be installed. The USO (where I work) has A/C, but the post policy is until it reaches a certain temp for a certain amount of days, that they won't turn it on.

Let me tell you ladies....it is SWELTERING in the USO on a daily basis. Imagine a building where breezes don't blow in, combined with the fact that at any given time there are 10-40 guys in the building. I literally come home everyday covered in sweat. I am not pleased about that. My boss told me last year they didn't turn the A/C on until July. Quite honestly I'm not sure I can handle that. I may have to start coming to work in my bikini!

Speaking of my bikini, I went ahead and ordered that green bikini from Old Navy. I tried it on as soon as I got home and I was very pleased with it. My only issue. Where in the heck have my boobs gone? I used to fill out a bikini decently. Now I look like a 12- year- old girl. If you think I'm joking I assure you I'm not! I guess that's the price you pay for losing weight? If only I could direct my body to get rid of extra fat in my thighs and leave my boobs alone!

Can you all believe that Memorial Day is this weekend? This year is going by super-fast. Sean and I are still not sure what we are going to be doing. We originally thought Rome, but have pushed that back. Sean really wants to go up to Innsbruck since he's been through there twice on his way to Germany. I have to admit that going up to Austria does sound like a fun time. Anybody been to Innsbruck? Any suggestions?

One last thing, I'd like to say hello to my new followers that have started reading me in the last few weeks. I really do appreciate all of you that read my blog. Don't be afraid to say hello!

  1. Ugh, working in those conditions can not be fun! I hope they turn on the AC soon!

We don't have ac in our home, I hope it isn't sweltering this summer here in Germany!

I hope you guys have a great Memorial weekend whatever you decide to do ;)

  2. hey, i'm a new follower! I can't wait to see if we will ever get a chance to go to Italy! Are they trying to save electricity and thats why they won't turn on the air? You'd better get a fan!

  3. Innsbruck is really nice. You will have fun! And it's true, they didn't turn on the AC until July..then it broke! We didn't have AC all summer last year. We had every door, window and fan open and running.

  4. Lauren's right, the USO was miserable last summer. Jericho was just a baby so we were either at home or in the car with cool air blowin'. My mom and aunt came out to visit last year, and I put them on an ITR trip to Innsbruck for a day. They came back with beautiful pictures and jaws-wide-open stories about how much fun it was. Enjoy your weekend!

  5. If you go to Innsbruck you'll have to let me know how it is! We are stopping through there this summer when my parents visit :)

  6. Glad the weight loss is going well for you. It seems like there's no escape from the heat! Austria sounds like so much fun. You guys will make it to rome, and once you've been I am pretty sure you'll keep going back. It is hands down my absolute favorite city on the planet.

  10. I love Innsbruck ... its a beautiful city! Its a couple hours from there, but the Arlberg region is beeeeeautiful in the summertime. St Anton, Lech, etc. There's very few people around, and it is so peaceful and relaxing.

Hope they turn the air on soon for you! Maybe you can get one of those cheesy battery operated fans you were around your neck! :)

  11. Bleh.. I used to work somewhere that didn't have AC and it was horrible in the summer. Nothing like breaking a sweat while sitting at a desk.

Hey, at least you have a body in general that can sport a bikini! That's something to be happy about.

  12. I'm curious, because I've only been to Italy during the non-sweltering times, is Italy humid at all?

  13. Yuck...I went through hot spells in Seattle without A/C (nobody has it there, but it can get up to 90!) I hung around the malls and movie theaters when my apt got too hot and took cold showers before bed. Def don't miss those days...hope you get your A/C soon!

  14. I could just imagine from reading your blog how uncomfortable it is to work with no A/C-ick.
And yeah! I totally miss my boobs too from losing some weight. I wish I could tell my body take it from the thighs..jeez.

  15. No AC?! Ugh! I'd be so irritated if I were you! I get so crabby and annoyed when I'm sweaty and hot! I certainly hope that they turn it on sooner than later!

I hear you on the bikini top ordeal! Anytime I lose weight that is one of the first places I lose and it's annoying!

  16. I'm very afraid to say hello.

I only remember using our fans 2 times last summer, it really didn't get that warm up here. I know our BX has portable AC units, maybe yours does also?

  17. I hope it cools down some for you! Me on the other hand, it's so cold here still...I wish summer would hurry up, get here and stay!

  19. whew! good luck without the air. I know it's rough. I stayed in Rome from June to August without it and it gets SO hot there!

  20. I really hope that one day I can say "I'm not sure what we're doing this weekend.. Rome or Austria" I love it! Wouldn't so much look forward to the AC part though. Good luck with that :)

  21. I hear that the common lack of AC has to do with the common lack of windows and abundance of large gaping holes. But, I'd 100% prefer the ac!

  22. Growing up in California we didn't have air conditioning at my house. I don't think most people did.

Of course in Louisiana its hard to find a house that doesn't! Its a nice change to get used to.

  23. Ugh I'm so a fan of A/C as soon as possible! People don't really have it here either, which is weird to me! Thankfully, it doesn't get as hot here as it does other places.

I can't believe Memorial Day is here, and I can't believe I'm stuck working it! It won't be so bad to get the time and a half, but my managers messed up my schedule and had to add me in last minute. Hope you guys have a fun weekend!

  25. Sorry about the A/C situation. That is a major bummer. Hope you guys have fun where ever you go on your Memorial Day weekend. I am just excited that hubbby won't be TDY this time.

  26. Ugghh...those are my memories of summer in Vicenza. The only places that had AC were the movie theater, Burger King, and the hospital. So we ate a lot of BK and saw a lot of movies, at least. DH has promised me window units in wherever we end up and I will hold him to it.

  28. Glad you like your new bathing suit! I have to agree that its not fair that your boobs disappear when you lose weight.

I can't believe its almost Memorial Day weekend, the summer is almost here!
