So, I have officially decided to participate in the Picture a Day for a Year that I've seen floating around on the web.
I've been putting off doing it since we didn't have Internet at our house yet, but now that we do, I see no point in putting it off.
I'm doing this because:
A. I think it will force me to become a better photographer
B. It'll be a great way to document my life living in Italy
I don't think I'll be posting every picture on my blog, but I'm sure I'll have a Picasa album and link on my sidebar so that you guys can check it out if you want.
*Edited to Add* I have decided after some thought to turn my 365 photo challenge into a separate blog. So you can check it out at www.newgirlpics.blogspot.com. I decided to call it, "A Picture Is Worth a 1000 Words".
So...without further ado.
My very first picture.
These are some choclate chip cookies I made. I've been making them at home as well as the USO and it appears they are already a hit there.
I swear by Andrea's recipe. They are simply the best chocolate chip cookies ever! I highly recommend them.
In other news, Sean didn't end up jumping yesterday. He said about 60 people did, but about a 100 didn't get to. I guess too many chutes got wet and they didn't have enough time to dry them....so he was back home around midnight.
Also yesterday I had the funniest encounter with some little Italian kids that live in a house next to our apartment. I took Boomer outside and they loved him! They kept shouting "Piccolo cane!" (Small dog) So I took him over to them and let them pet him. The two kids were a boy and a girl who were probably around 8 years old. They asked me what Boomer's name was and what my name was. Then the little boy started rattling off in Italian. I can catch bits and pieces, but I'm still not anywhere close to knowing a ton of the language so I had to tell him "Non capisco" (I don't understand) He asked if I was American and then the little girl asked where I lived and then the little boy said something about me not speaking Italian, but English and the sweet little girl told him I didn't speak very much Italian, but I could understand them.
It was hilarious! I felt bad, because I couldn't really talk to them like I would like to, but maybe in time that would happen, but I was proud of myself for at least knowing part of what they were saying.
Well..that's my picture and stories from today!
Ciao!
Sometimes the half understood conversations are the best ones. =D
ReplyDeleteI'm doing a Project 365 - it's my blog titled "Through My Eyes." I'm ridiculously excited to see photos of Italy.
ReplyDeleteOh I hate you for posting such a delish picture and me seeing it first thing in the morning! I'm going to have cookies on the brain all day long!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cute about the little kids and good for you for picking up bits and pieces -- languages are always tough because people speak in what seems like 100 mph bursts when you're still learning! :)
How fun! I just started back on a picture a day for my blog. I hope I can keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThose cookies look FAB!!!!
I can't wait to see your pictures every day either!
ReplyDeleteAwww I can't imagine how hard that would be to want to talk to someone and not be able to.
ReplyDeleteThose cookies look ammmmaaaaazing!
I should not have looked at that yummy stuff this early in the morning!!! :)
Awww how sweet! I love little kids like that.
ReplyDeleteI totally need to do the picture a day thing too, but as a busy college kid I don't always have time to take photos! I want to try to do it after I get married though :)
Ok... you must pass along the recipe for those cookies to the pregnant girl!!! They look SO good!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute blog!! Good luck with the picture posting! PS. My hubby and I are going to Italy in four weeks and staying near Cinque Terre. I studied abroad in Milan and LOVED Cinque Terre. Have you been there? Glad to have found you on here!
ReplyDeleteCute story about you and the kiddos! At least you understood a good portion of it!
ReplyDeleteWell I'd say kids are the best way to learn a language! They'll be honest with you if you make mistakes in a way only kids can and they won't judge you! Way to go on understanding them! I'd say that is great considering how short of a time you've been living there.
ReplyDeletehubby was just asking me to make chocolate chip cookies, i think i'm headed to the kitchen very soon =) great idea for the pictures (and super yummy 1st pic) and that is so cute with the litte italian kiddos, i would love to learn italian!
ReplyDeleteThat's just one step in the language learning process. I understood much more than I could speak. The only solution is to speak more. It was VERY frustrating to want to say something but not be able to.
ReplyDeleteLove the new picture blog!
Leesville misses you too! Seriously friends like you don't come around often.
mmm. cookies.
ReplyDeleteYum!
ReplyDeleteCute little story! At least you understood them! You're one step closer to speaking Italian! Now you just have to practice...
I think that is an awesome idea! I am glad you are going for it! I can't wait to see all your pictures!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! I'm glad I stumbled upon it, I am following you now :)
ReplyDeleteStop on over and say hello!
I had a sweet little neighbor girl over on Thursday to teach her how to make my chocolate chip cookies. We had such a blast!! We also made my chocolate oil cake with TONS of buttercream frosting to celebrate her dad making Major.
ReplyDeleteGlad my cookies are making people smile ALL over the world! :)
