Well, this will probably be the last time I post this week. Can I just say that I hate not having Internet? It would make life so much easier and I'd be so much more entertained when I'm at home!
Yesterday I stayed at home while Sean went to his EMT class on-post. He only has one more week of it and I know he's excited that it's coming to a close. Staying at home was....boring. I had the laptop, Boomer and my books to amuse me. I wanted to take Boomer on a long walk yesterday, but it was raining...again. So I chose instead to give him a bath. I don't think he was thrilled about my choice.
Today I went to the gas company again and got most of the paperwork taken care of. Minus the two pages I have to fax back to them, because the ladies at the Tax Relief Office didn't have Sean sign them. I don't mean to be rude, but isn't that your job? And isn't that the reason why I couldn't pick them up the original day I dropped them off because he had to sign them? I'm just saying......
I'm not sure what Sean and I are doing this weekend. I'd like to meet Casey, because she's in-country, but I'm unsure of how I would get to wherever to meet her. Yes, I'm aware we have buses and trains, but I'm not sure how I'd get to said train station. ARGH! Where is my car!
I'm sorry to be somewhat grouchy, I just have to say that waiting for my things and car to get to Europe is getting really frustrating. I DON'T like having to rely on someone to take me places.
Anyway, Sean and I wanted to go to Venice this weekend, since it's Carnivale there (aka their version of Mardi Gras) but I don't think we'll be able to. I dropped the big hint today that I don't expect anything big for Valentines Day, but I do expect something.
I'm not kidding when I tell you that my husband is possibly the least romantic man I've ever been involved with. He simply does not do presents well....at all. It's like I have to give him a detailed print-out of what I want or go with him to pick it out. I don't like doing that. I like the element of suprise. I actually told him at lunch today that him not trying to do something on holidays sends the message to me that I'm not special. He tried to tell me that's not how he feels, but it just comes off like that to me.
I'm not sure if that stems from him not really liking to receive presents himself, but I actually handed him a book in the PX that's title was something like "1001 Romantic Ideas" and told him to read and apply.
I don't mean to vent about my husband, but I have to admit that after reading some of your posts about the sweet things your husbands buy you or things of that nature make me a teensy bit jealous.
Perhaps your husbands can give mine some tips?
Anyway, I hope that all of you have a wonderful and romantic Valentine's Day. Care to share your plans with me?
Girl I know JUST how you feel.
ReplyDeleteA) Not having internet when we first arrived nearly KILLED me. seriously.
B) My husband used to be romantic when we were dating, but now...forget it. I don't even get my hopes up anymore!
C) the weather was awful here yesterday too. HORRIBLE rain and wind that nearly blew me off the road while I was driving. It's nice and sunny today, but COLD.
I'm with you on the internet! When we were staying the hotel for two months, the internet was terrible. I had to down to the lobby to use it.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is so sweet, but not very good with being romantic. I feel the same way you do. He was very romantic and surprised me when we were dating but not so much anymore.
Hope your day gets better.... and who knows, you might get a great Valentines day surprise!
I dropped big hints to Mark that I would love to recieve flowers sometime. I thought that his time first back from Iraq would make him want to do romantic things for me. No such luck, but he has been a bit more attentive than I ever expected. You and I have already had a convo about marrying the same man and all that. Just wish you'd gotten to meet him. That timming just sucked!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment! If you ever get a chance to eat at the cheesecake factory, do it! Their food is *almost* as good as the cheesecake. ;-) (that is, if you like cheesecake)
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I would manage without a car. I think I would go crazy!
ReplyDeleteAs for the romance part, have you considered making yourself a "wishlist" on a website? Like Amazon for example? I realize that's not near as much fun as a TRUE surprise, but at least it gives him some ideas and you get what you want.
*R* always thinks he has good ideas, but in the end, sometimes....not as good as he intended, know what I mean?
Just found your blog! How neat to be living in Italy.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh!! How did *I* not realize that you are from Oklahoma?!? Wow, what a small world!
ReplyDeleteI really like OSU actually...well, except during bedlam, of course. ;) I absolutely love you Min-Pin's name! I'm planning on naming my dog (the one I don't have yet - lol) Boomer...great minds think alike.
I don't think you sound grouchy at all! I would be so stressed and super grouchy if I was without my belongings, in a different country and didn't have the internet. I think you are doing sooooo great!!
Vent away whenever necessary - blogging is so therapeutic! We’re all here for you. ;)
I think we are planning a low-key Valentine's Day. We are just going to make dinner together and then see a movie.
Hope your week gets better!
My hubby is not romantical at all. I mean, I get pretty excited when he makes me coffee and puts dishes in the dishwasher. I have given up on dropping effective hints and just hope for the best. He tries...he really does (I think).
ReplyDeleteI hope the stuff gets there SOON!
I hope your week gets better! I know it is tough living in a new place and not having the things you are used to having. Maybe your husband will surprise you for Valentine's! If not, you should plan something and make him foot the bill! :)
ReplyDeletemy husband got me slippers and a rubber duck for christmas one year after we had been dating 3 years (long enough for something GOOD)... when I opened it he proclaimed he got the duck for 4.95 with an Ulta coupon and later told me (after i told him he could have just gotten me jewelry...) that his mom said he's gotten me too much jewelry.. WOMAN! MIND YOUR BUSINESS!. haha so yea I feel you on non romantic.
ReplyDeleteWe're going to Milan this weekend to stay in a nice hotel and see a soccer match. I don't know if you're a fan of soccer, but the matches are a lot of fun. Maybe there's one in Vicenza this weekend? The tickets are cheap and the bus is easy to take. Could be something to look into.
ReplyDeleteI hope your week gets better!
My husband is pretty romantic, but I don't think I always am. He is a great gift giver, and tries to plan special times for us. I really appreciate it, but I don't do a very good job back!
ReplyDeleteI do hope you get your things soon. I hate having to rely on others to get around.
If it makes you feel any better, Keith was going to have me order my own Valentine's present...and he told me to order myself a nice card to go with it! Ha!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is sweet with the little things, but not really traditionally romantic. He totally sucks with gifts about 90% of the time. For our anniversary, he bought me a boxed set of musicals on DVDs. Oh my gawwwwd. Seriously? I am sort of nervous to see what I get for Valentine's Day. We don't really ever do big presents, nor make a big deal out of it, but still....yikes.
ReplyDeleteHe sticks with sending flowers because it is comfortable for him and he knows it is a good "go-to"!
It makes me feel so much better that I'm not the only one dealing with a hubby that missed out on the romance gene. Tim actually told me he HATES Valentine's Day (which has always been a favorite holiday of mine) and that we were not doing anything for it. Oh, and I wasn't supposed to expect a present, either. Nice, right? After 4 years of marriage he tells me this. I think I need to buy that book!
ReplyDeleteWell Matt and I have finally nailed down our V-Day plans and boooyy are you going to be jealous!!
ReplyDeleteWhat are these super plans you might say?......
We're getting the garden ready and planting the first batch of Onions. Awww, 45 degree weather, dirt beneath my nails and the stench of onions on my hands. How romantic :)
Oh, and I sent him an email about the Fat Witch Bakery brownies, hint hint. He said "Isn't $43 a bit much for some brownies?" AGGHHHH!!
I join you in your frustration,
Love and Miss you!!!
Hubby decided that we'd be getting tv shows on dvd for v-day....yeah so not what I was wanting. But I'm dragging him to a local zoo and planetarium and I'm really hoping he'll surprise me with something else though it's rather doubtful.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have ANY plans for Valentine's Day! We talked about not doing anything, but I'm hoping he decides to surprise me with something...we'll see!
ReplyDeleteha! boyfriend is possibly the most unsubtle guy you've ever met when it comes to gifts. Observe:
ReplyDeleteboyfriend: "do you have when harry met sally?"
via: "no"
boyfriend: "oh"
Translation: I'm getting you when harry met sally for valentine's day.
If you find some tips, let me know!
I can tell you that your own personal idea of romance changes when you have kids. This year, my husband is giving me a "day off" so I can take my pregnancy belly cast to the Arts and Crafts center on Post to plaster and paint. Seriously, I couldn't be more excited! Let Sean know that you will be looking for something special this weekend, so he needs to step up and make an effort!
ReplyDeleteHa! I find the different comments from everyone so funny because I am in fact the terribly non-romantic, bad gift-giver in my relationship! Last Valentine's day my boyfriend got me a cute card and a flower (living not cut) and it was sooo sweet! What did I get him? NADA! I've never gotten him a SINGLE card, and he LOVES cards...so this year I finally got him one that is about 20 by 30 inches. I try, I swear, I'm just not that great at finding gifts for people. The best advice I can give is don't tell him you don't want anything- because trust me, he'll believe it. Men don't understand that whole I-want-something-but-I'm-pretending-like-don't-so-that-you'll-surprise-me. Trust me, the only surprise you'll get is none! Remember though that its isn't about gifts its about sharing the time together in a special way.
ReplyDeleteI am so nervous about these sorts of things. I am considering making us stay at a crappier hotel for the first three months because it has free internet and all the nice hotels cost 15euros a day! I cannot be without my computer if I am going to be alone all day. And by the way I got a massage gift certificate and flowers at the office today. Did I mention my fiance left this morning (it's THURSDAY for god sake) for his bachelor party and won't be back until Monday? I can totally account for the gifts!
ReplyDeleteI'm there with you girl! I'm sooo jealous of all the thoughtful things everyone's husbands have done for them, including those cute little notes they left behind when they deployed. Husband's response? Ehhh. This is a girl that got car mats for a birthday present a couple years back!
ReplyDeleteI can sympathize with you!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is not romantic. I usually just order things when I want because he will never buy them or remember.
He never thinks about the little things.
On the other hand, he would do anything for me and is an amazing father. Guess there have to be some trade-offs?
Hopefully your car will get there soon! The hubby and I just went out to dinner for v-day...a place I picked. And I got new candles for the living room...ones I bought so you can see how romantic my man is too...
ReplyDeleteOK...so I am a little late on commenting but I just want you to know that if you are reading my blog about all the sweet things my hubby does for me, please know that even he needs a reminder now and then.
ReplyDeleteThe book "1001" was a good idea. I bet he reads it and you get a surprise soon!
