Slip and Slide

So, a few nights ago I was running around the apartment with Boomer, playing tag with him as we usually do.

Unfortunately, I wasn't used to playing tag with him on non-carpeted floors and I promptly slipped, my feet came out from underneath me and I found myself on the hard floor.

Sean wasn't in the room or I'm sure he would have laughed, but he came out to see what the deal was as I'm laying on the floor, clutching my butt, yelling, "OMG!OW OW OW!"

Thank god I have some JLO-esque cushioning on my posterior or I'd probably have broken my tailbone. As it is, I think I bruised it. I did that once before about ten years ago when I slipped on my parents' floor and I couldn't sit right for more than a year.

Luckily I don't think it's that bad this time.

In other news, I think I've accidentally offended my first Italian.

See...Sean and I were in a cafe on-post and ordered some dinner. I got pasta and it ended up being a full plate of it. Combine that with bread and I can't eat the whole thing. When our waitress came around she informed that the cook would make me something else if I wasn't pleased with what I had. I told her it was great, I was just full, but she kept insisting. Now everytime Sean goes in there for coffee, she refuses to charge him for it. As if she's trying to make up for me not eating all the pasta.

I told Sean I certaintly didn't mean to offend anyone, but how can I eat everything that's on my plate? If I do I'm going to leave Italy about 20 lbs heavier!

I hope all of your are enjoying your Saturday! Any big plans for this long weekend?

I think we might be going bowling, trying to get out to see Vicenza and hopefully eating someplace delish off-post.

  3. I hope you feel better! I've bruised my tailbone before-it's the worst!

Have you tried an authentic Italian pizza yet?

  4. The food sounds so good! But I don't blame you - it's hard to eat it all. How nice of them to give your husband free coffee!

  5. Your poor booty! I can't believe the pasta thing--you'd think being on post that they would be used to American norms! ugh! (but at least Sean is getting free coffee out of the deal?)

  9. Ahh the benefits of a "JLo-esque" derriere! I can totally relate, I slipped down the icy stairs at our apartment a few weeks ago, don't worry though I had plenty of padding to keep me safe! haha
I'm glad you, Sean, and Boomer are doing so great!

  10. Ouch!! I hope you heal quickly!

It's interesting how the thinking is SO different in other cultures. I am sure that before long you'll have the hang of the Italian way :) Until then, enjoy the free coffee! (Looking on the bright side :) )

  11. Falling on the tailbone is the WORST! That pasta story is funny! It really goes to show you all the small differences between cultures.
Where in Italy is Vicenza located? Only reason I ask is because when I think of Italy I think of the Meditteranean and that makes me think of warm weather!

  14. My husbands step-family is just like that. His grandparents are VERY Italian and I swear I gain at least 5lbs per day with them. I don't understand why they aren't 1000lbs overwieght. You just cannot tell them that you are full. They don't comprehend!
But I would say enjoy that free coffee while they keep it coming to ya!!

  15. Ouch! I've broken my tailbone before and that is no fun! I hope it feels better quickly!

What an interesting story about the restaurant. I hope they weren't offended, but it is pretty cool how you get free coffee! =)

  16. Did I ever tell you what school I was hoping to go to? I have applied to University of North Texas. They have an ALA accredited program, available all online. Plus, being from Texas I get in state tuition, which is a huge plus.

  17. I'm glad that you are not seriously injured! Also, I'm sure I would gain probably 50 pounds in Italy because I love bread and pasta so much - I guess that means I won't be visiting there anytime soon!
