I first of all would like to apologize any of the Blog Around the World visitors that are stopping by today. I feel like a bad hostess who didn't clean her house! I completely forgot about Louisiana being spotlighted today and didn't even write a fresh post for everyone to check out. So..I apologize.
Anyway, there is a website that I read about in the New York Times that you must check out if you have masses of old photos sitting around that you'd love to have on your computer, but just can't find the time to scan them or like me, you just don't want to take the time to scan them.
There is a service now that does all of that for you! ScanMyPhotos.com will scan 1,000 photos for $50.00 for you and put it on a disk for you. The turn-around time on the service is supposed to be very quick. They'll even scan negatives, slides, etc. for you, although the pricing is different on that. I'm really thinking of getting that done to my pictures before I move in a few months. I'd love to have all my loose photos on a disk so I can have them on my computer rather than just laying in my desk drawer. I told my mom about it this weekend and she was just as excited as I was. We have TONS of pictures at home that I know she'd really like to be scanned.
So if you are like my family and have tons of photos lying around, do yourself a favor and check out the website. It's my find of the year!
I'm stopping by on my tour around the bloggin' world. I have spent hours and hours scanning those old pics and it would have so worth $50 to let someone else do it!! I'll be back to check out more of your site later but wanted to stop in and say congrats on being featured today!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip on the photos! Doing it manually is a pain!!
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting. But most of the non-digital pictures I'd like to scan and old family photos - not sure I'd like to send those in the mail. It would be cool to find somewhere with walk-in service, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the welcome to Louisiana. =)
ReplyDeleteI have to agree that while this may be a great service, I have 40 years worth of photos from both sides of our family that I'd be afraid would be lost in some way or another....I'm now in the opposite situation, I need to order prints of the thousands of digital pictures I have on 5 computers....I hate the time it takes to upload them.
ReplyDeleteI might have to look into that!
ReplyDeleteAnd don't worry about forgeting BLATHW, I totally forgot too ;)
Just stopping by from BATW. Thx for thw website. I have tons and don't have the time to sit and scan them. Have a great day! :)
ReplyDeleteStopping in from Blog Around the World. Thank you for the information. I must have at least 1000 photos hanging around that I would love to o stuff with but can't be bothered to mess with a scanner.
ReplyDeleteHere from BATW! Great idea! My biggest picture problem is never developing the pics on my camera/computer. I should really do that sometime!
ReplyDeleteHey Melissa--came through Blogging Around the World--and you know what--I live about 30 miles from you!! I just wasn't a member of BATW till today. Glad to know a fellow Louisiana girl blogger!!! Come virtually visit me sometime. Oh--BTW--Anissa at Home Where They Belong is my sister-in-law!! So, we need to meet up some time and go to lunch!!
ReplyDeleteHello fellow Louisiana-ian! I will have to check out the site you recommended, I have tons of old photos it'd be cool to have scanned. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip--I'll check it out soon. I've really been enjoying my tour of Loooooziana--thanks for having us!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I love all of your Military Wife links - great collection! I am also an Army wife. Stop by if you need anything - I'm just down the road in Alabama :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip--I have a hard time riding herd on all my old photos, too! And thanks for having us all over--you're such a gracious hostess!
ReplyDeleteAnother military wife here...attached to the Navy, somehow...and doing my daily tour, and also the BATW thing...
ReplyDeleteGreat tip on the pictures!
I'll have to check that out...what a great idea to get organized.
ReplyDeleteI admire you embracing the military lifestyle; I think I probably hold the title for the worst army wife EVER!! Just ask my husband!
Yep, Soldier's Wife is seeing it my way - this is the first generation to NOT have that old shoebox of family photos passed on to them. I have started printing my photos on the first of every month from my digital camera and throwing them in a photo album with brief captions. If I don't do it, my kids won't have ANYthing one day when their computers don't 'read' my CDs or my camera is d.e.a.d. They've torn the summer album to shreads showing it to their grandparents, sharing stories from the photos they see inside with each other. I love it! I see the value of scanning, but I encourage you to save the stories, even if you just write a short line or two on the back like our parents did.
ReplyDeleteOh, here's my real comment (I got off on my tangent there for a minute...) LOVE the Little House series. Did you ever read Caddie Woodlawn? Second favorite to anything Laura Ingalls Wilder!
Hey girl where have you been! Lost you over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteOh, I so need this. Because I have sooo many pictures that need to be scanned. I wish the negatives option was a little cheaper...but I am definitely going to check out the other. Thanks so much for a great tip. (They should give you a kick back!!)
ReplyDelete(Oh, your word verification made me truly LOL: ikisbumz)
That sounds great - I have so many old photos.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea...my mom has tons and tons of photos lying around...I should pass this info on to her! :)
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing about the scanning! Good to know. I live in Hungary...so let me know if your military life takes you over this way!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Thanks for the great tip!!! I will explore it more.
