Military Wife Don'ts

Inspired by events that transpired yesterday, I'm now bringing you my first post of Military Wife Don'ts.

1. This one is kind of a don't for all woman-kind. Ok, let me be the first to say that I love Uggs. Yes, they are ugly, but they are warm and I love my knock-off version from Target. I also wear them under my jeans as I think they look best that way on my body.

Now..to the don't. Please don't EVER wear your Uggs with a sleeveless, white, obviously summer dress that has eyelet and a sweater. You look like a MORON in December in this get-up. It's 40 freakin' degrees outside people, get a clue.

2. My second don't is a little more serious. Please, please if you're a military wife try to observe OPSEC when posting on your blog. I can honestly say there are no violators of this in the military wife blogs I read right now. None. But yesterday I was browsing and found an Army wife who is stationed where I am, has her full name, her husband's full name, her baby's full name prominently on her profile/blog and where she is stationed prominently on her blog. She also goes into detail about deployment issues, Army memorandums and where their FRG goes, etc. I don't find that safe and it makes me nervous that anyone out there can read it. I'm not saying people have to never mention anything about the military or where they are at, but just be smart about it.

That is all!

Here's another one: Don't walk to the PX in pajama pants and flip flops when it is 29 degrees. You look like a moron!

I honestly don't get why people don't follow OPSEC, but they'll always be out there...

"UGG! How irresponsible of that army wife!" (hehe i couldn't resist ;)

I also agree, I <3 my uggs with a passion, i don't care what anyone thinks. I honestly don't know what I would've done without them in AK last winter!

Amen about the uggs. Under the jeans!

Some people aren't aware of OPSEC, when I come across someone who is breaking OPSEC, I have no qualms about sending them an email and educating them. As far as posting of names, that's more of a PERSEC issue more so than OPSEC. PERSEC is a tricky little thing because everyone has their own idea of what personal information they are okay with posting.

I believe that is good advice for everyone. You shouldn't put personal information (full names, location, etc) out on the internet for all to see. That's just dangerous.

Eek, uggs and eyelet is bad!!

I'm always so paranoid about giving away too much info online, but it's good to have a reminder!!

Summer dress (white, at that), with a sweater and Uggs?! Really!? Well, alrighty then.

And the OPSEC thing...sometimes I have to rethink what I've typed, but it sounds like that girl is really putting way too much out there, for sure.

I'm cracking up over the summer dress stuff. Too funny. I'm a fan of my uggs as well. I wear them over my jeans and don't think I could make it through the winter without them!

I don't give out too much info, but I do use our real names, since my last name is so obvious anyway and it's part of the blog title...but that's why I went private, so I didn't have to worry about random people reading about us.

Oh my goodness! I saw a woman at the px the other day wearing tight pajama bottoms tucked into her boots, ha!

The OPSEC thing gets me every time. I'm surprised her husband hasn't told her to stop posting all the details. But that is just like girlfriends/spouses who post the flight information of their husbands who are redeploying home and get the flight canceled for everyone! Some people will never learn.

Since I'm still new to this whole thing, I'm trying to keep details of my personal life as hush hush as possible. You never know who's lurking around the 'net.

I think Uggs have a place, and generally the south ain't it, though OK gets quite cold. I also disliked the girls who wear jean skirts with uggs. I think the uggs that are knee high with the fur coming out are cute. I really dislike the slipper looking ones though I can see how warm they'd be.

We discussed the OPSEC violations in our command course and they brought up having a blog or a facebook group for the FRG. I can't believe people actually do that. On top of it all, the COMMANDER gets in trouble for any of the FRG leader's violations. Bad news.

hahaha... #1 is classic. Absolutely ridiculous..and #2 is sad & scary! Does her hubby know about her blog? Mine would absolutely flip if he found out I was doing such things! He flipped out when I told what STATE we were living in at the time! haha :)

I'm with you on the Uggs. I love them and they're the only remotely stylish boots I can get away with wearing in Wisconsin winter's, but I'm with you...I wear them under my jeans. I tried wearing them over and they made my hips look humongous! It sounds weird, but very true!

I don't get why people post lots of identifying personal info in the first place.

But, then sometimes I talk to those people, and I realize that they are stupid. Like really genuinely stupid and they just have no idea that what they are doing is a problem.

Sheesh!

The rule at our house (not including RLA, he had different rules) ... we don't discuss deployments on the interwebs. We don't discuss anything on the interwebs except on July 4, veterans day, etc.

Blah. Some people will just never get it.

It totally creeps me out when people have their full name on their blog, military wife or not!

I'm totally guilty of walking my dog in Uggs and shorts the other day. But I have never worn them with a dress, or when I was trying to look nice. I used to wear them to work during the winter back in PA, and then change into normal work shoes. :)

Uggs with a summer dress.. really??!

And as far as #2, that's just scary! I think we (military wives) have to be overly cautious especially with what we post on the Internet. Heck I even feel nervous about posting pictures on here! You just never know who is reading..

Thumbs up to this post!

I agree with the privacy issues. I'm struggling with that as well. In fact, I'm removing a blog that I've had going for a couple of years bc of all of the details included. It is a bit dangerous.
Maybe she needs to know. . .

I've been thinking about getting some UGGs (or knockoffs!) for my time up at Fort Drum. Holy hell it's cold up there.

EW. Not classy clothing. As for OPSEC, I happen to just be a slightly paranoid person. I don't need any more creepy people knowing my name than those who learn it at work on a daily basis, let alone the name of the BF. (Ps. I told you I'd let you know when I started a blog! Here it is: www.thelongbluedress.blogspot.com)

I freakin' love Uggs. I will not, however, wear them with summer clothing. At UF, that was supremely popular amongst the sorority girls. Tanks, jean skirts, and uggs. Ridic.

And as far as OPSEC...oh geeze. There really is a fine line between what is okay and what isn't okay, and almost everyone seems to understand that if it makes you feel uncomfortable, you don't share it with the internet. But apparently, some gals just don't get that...Infuriating to wait for your husband's flight to get delayed time and again because some girl can't resist blabbing flight info on myspace and facebook.
